Fire-Ravaged Californians Get Help From Bloom Farms And Magnolia Wellness |

San Francisco, CA...Bloom Farms™, a San Francisco based medical cannabis company, partnered with Magnolia Wellness, an Oakland dispensary, and raised $25,000 this past holiday season for Calaveras County Butte fire relief efforts. On Friday, March 4, 2016, Bloom Farms Director Michael Ray made the donation at The Resource Connection in San Andreas to the following organizations focused on post-event recovery and supporting affiliated local nonprofits: Mountain Ranch Fire Relief Fund ($10,000 to support individual and emergency family needs) CalaverasGROWN ($5,000 to support soil erosion prevention efforts) Mountain Ranch Resource Center ($5,000 to support local community feeding program) The Resource Connection ($5,000 to support countywide food insecurity efforts)

South Fork Prescribed Fire Is Underway |

Sonora, CA...The South Fork prescribed burn, a jackpot prescribed fire, began yesterday. As of end of shift Tuesday, approximately 60 acres were accomplished, meeting our primary objective of over 80% consumption of the piles. We are hoping to finish the majority today with another 30 acres, but it may push into Thursday. The burn will be ignited in sections of one to 50 acre units located within the 186 acre South Fork Prescribed Fire project area, specifically located at: Township 3N, Range 16E, Section 34, along South Fork Road (Forest Road 2N63).

Inmate Firefighter Dies From Injuries Suffered In Mulholland Fire |

Sacramento, CA...The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) today announced that an inmate firefighter injured yesterday in the Mulholland Fire has died. In the early hours of Thursday morning, Shawna Lynn Jones, 22, was struck by a boulder that had rolled down a hill. She was airlifted to UCLA Medical Center, where she was listed in critical condition with major head injuries. Jones was removed from life support after her organs were donated, in keeping with her family’s wishes.

U.S. Forest Service Plans Prescribed Burn On Stanislaus National Forest |

Sonora, CA...Fire crews will begin ignitions Monday on the South Fork Prescribed Fire, units one to three, on the Mi-Wok Ranger District, Stanislaus National Forest, weather and air quality conditions permitting. The burn will be ignited in sections of one to 50 acre units located within the 186 acre South Fork Prescribed Fire project area, specifically located at: Township 3N, Range 16E, Section 34, along South Fork Road (Forest Road 2N63). Though the burn is planned to begin Feb. 22, ignitions may start later and continue for several days with residual smoke being seen for one to two weeks. The area will be treated using low-intensity prescribed fire. Size of burn may vary with weather and fuel moisture conditions, as well as permissible air quality burn days.

San Andreas, CA...Each day since the Butte Fire was extinguished, many people have been working behind the scenes to restore Calaveras County to the “New Normal”. With the help and guidance of FEMA a volunteer group has been formed to work with survivors of the Butte Fire both with immediate and long term needs. This group now known as “Calaveras Recovers” has already done some amazing work in the few months they have existed.

Rail Road Flat, CA...Now four months after the fire The Friends of Rail Road Flat School which is a local grass roots non-profit group under the auspices of Blue Mountain Community Renewal Council is still hard at work meeting the needs of Fire Survivors. Currently we are stocking and distributing goods from our Butte Fire Relief Donation Truck, Thanks to Volcano Phone Company for loaning us the truck. Our truck is available at the Mountain Ranch Resource Center every Thursday 9-11am, and various stops afterwards (current schedule at Senders and RRF Post Office). The truck is also available to Fire Survivors anytime by contacting one of the team members listed at the end of this letter. The trucks main focus is immediate need: water, food, clothing, heat, propane, tarps, gloves, hats, cleaning supplies, hygiene supplies, etc….

Calaveras Community Foundation Contributes $40,000 To Support CCAR Charities Butte Fire Relief Efforts |

Angels Camp, CA...CCAR Charities is pleased to announce that the Calaveras Community Foundation has granted them a second grant this week, in the amount of $40,000, to assist those who suffered damages in the Butte Fire. CCAR Charities is very thankful and grateful for that organization’s on-going support and its faith in the things being accomplished by CCAR Charities. Part of the grant, in the amount of $7,500, was donated to Calaveras Community Foundation by PG&E.

The Mission of the Calaveras Foothills Fire Safe Council is to maintain the quality of life for residents (human as well as local animal and vegetation species) as we coexist within each Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) Zone in the Council's sphere of influence that encompasses Calaveras County and portions of Western Alpine County to achieve effective fire protection through education, guidance, and planning as we: Maintain a Healthy Forest, Reduce hazardous vegetation, Create defensible space, Educate as to fire hazards and fire behavior. Flash Flood Watch In Effect From Friday Afternoon Through Saturday Morning For Butte Fire Burn Area |

San Andreas, CA...Flash Flood Watch for anyone living or traveling on roads in the Butte Fire Burn Area along Jesus Maria Creek and the Calaveras River especially from Whiskey Slide to Highway 26 should be alert for probable road problems due to flooding, rock and debris, Mountain Ranch Rd and the connecting smaller roads within the Butte Fire Burn Area. Large portions of the area have been severely burned. These areas no longer absorb any rainfall, which can lead to enhanced runoff and possible debris flows. Rainfall amounts of 2 to 3 inches are forecast over the burn scar area from Friday afternoon through Saturday morning, moderate to heavy rainfall is possible for several hours. Be prepared to take action in the case of flash floods, rockslides and or debris flows.
