TEA PARTY TAX PROTEST |
The Calaveras County Taxpayers Association (CCTA), according to its President, Al Segalla, is hosting a second “Tea Party” to honor our founding fathers and to protest the hurtful increases in spending and taxation at the state and federal levels. The event is open to the public and there is no admission charge.
The first local Tea Party was held on April 15. Although anticipating perhaps 20 – 40 people to attend, the tax protest is considered by CCTA to be a huge success with approximately 200 people attending and many bringing signs. Nearly all attendees signed petitions, which were sent to our state and federal representatives calling for an end to the bailouts, substantial reduction in the size of government and stopping runaway spending.
The July Fourth event will also be held at Utica Park in Angels Camp, between 5 and 7 PM. The Tea Party is just symbolic, as the CCTA advocates only lawful and peaceful activities in support of the taxpayer. The event will feature more petitions to the President and Governor, speeches and informational presentations, literature and, of course, tea and cookies.
The petitions will also be available at the group’s website. Donations will be accepted on the website and at the event. Those donating over $12 may receive an annual CCTA membership.
