2nd Annual Occupational Olympics |
The 22nd Annual Occupational Olympics will be held on the Columbia College campus on Thursday, March 12. More than 200 high school students from Tuolumne and Calaveras Counties have signed up to compete in ten categories. Through the various competitions, students will have the opportunity to showcase their work skills and pit their talents against the best in the region.....
This is the ninth year that the event has been hosted at Columbia College and student competitions run from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at various classrooms and labs on the college campus. Participating schools are Calaveras High, Bret Harte High, Don Pedro High, Sonora High and Summerville High.
Participants range in ages from 16 and up. There is no cost to enter and competitions will be held at:
■ Automotive Technology - Madrone Building
■ Child Development – Ponderosa Building
■ Computer Business Applications – Fir 3/4
■ Computer-assisted Drafting – Fir 1
■ Cosmetology – Oak Pavilion/Second Floor
■ Digital Photography – Sequoia 8
■ Entrepreneurship – Buckeye 4
■ Food Occupations – Manzanita 2 and Lab
■ Health Occupations – Sequoia 10
■ Welding Technology – Madrone Building
The awards presentation will be at 1:00 p.m. in Carkeet Park, weather permitting. An alternate location will be the Madrone Building. Master of ceremonies will be Dave Urquhart, Summerville High School principal and the welcome will be delivered by Dr. Joan Smith, Columbia College president. Colors and the pledge will be by the Calaveras High color guard. Awards will be presented by Dr. John Keiter, superintendent of the Summerville Unified High School District and Jim Frost, superintendent of the Calaveras Unified High School District.
The event is sponsored by Partners in Education, Tuolumne County Office of Education, Calaveras County Office of Education and Columbia College.
