Aloft Art Gallery Presents " Inside / Out - A Winter's Interlude"
The Aloft Art Gallery is pleased to present an intriguing show based on interpretations by gallery artists
considering the theme.. Inside /Out - A Winter's Interlude. Nebulous in its meaning, the artists have come up
with a wide range ideas and a beautiful assortment of new art work to enjoy.
For many artists, winter is a time for hunkering down in their studio spaces and exploring potentially more esoteric
ideas for their artwork, as well as revisiting the comforting objects of their surroundings in a still life. Diana Eppler has expressed
the anticipation of winters end in her work "The Promise of Spring," an almost moody depiction of the stillness we experience
around us in winter's landscape, where cold bare branches abound, and yet, the hint of growth and rebirth is beckoning to us from the
barely visible buds. Diana Boyd takes comfort in a still life form, and paints an enlivened portrait of the objects involved in her
upcoming vegetable soup, titled " Sunday's Soup. Similarly, artist Michael Severin has created a still life that glows with warmth, using pumpkins, gourds and sunflowers.
For other artists, winter prompts a desire to represent what they might find just outside their door,
as when a winter storms bring a surprise bounty of snow to their once familiar landscape. Sherie Drake presents a fiery sunset portrait of her snowbound home. Barb Conley depicts a wooded snow scene wherein a few hidden visitors lurke, titled " Outside / In ." Several other artists have depicted the cold winter landscape including Irene Taylor and Pat Gray , both using watercolor; "Westlake Winterscape", and " Let it Snow", respectively. Lastly there are those that feel a need to express where they would rather be in their minds
eye, a favorite vacation destination is revisited on canvas.. as in Geneva Davis' dreamy springtime garden path titled " Simple Pleasures ," or a favorite memory retold with brush, on paper as in Ruth Morrows inviting "Dream Bears. "
The universal themes abound and are sure to invite introspection for the viewer.
