Murphy, CA..Evelyn and Mike Mainguth took home the people's choice awards. Talia Leyva & Tim Smith took best dancer honors. In a very enjoyable and great fund raising event for the Mark Twain St. Josephs Hospital Foundation. Over $14,000 was raised by the Dancers. This was just a small part of the funds raised. There was the live auction where some phenomenal items went on the block, One item alone the Special Beef Dinner Prepared by Sherri Smith from CAMPs Restaurant garnered $6,000 all by itself. The Treasure Chest and more raised funds earmarked for the new Mark Twain St. Joseph's Family Medical Center in Angels Camp....

Calaveras County, CA....Murphys celebrates the upcoming holidays big-time with two back-to-back open houses Dec. 7 and 8, 2012. Festivities begin when the Murphys Business Association hosts the annual Murphys Open House 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, replete with the lighting of the town tree, carolers, visits with Santa and a bevy of Main Street merchants offering complimentary beverages and appetizers. The community parade begins at 5:30 p.m. A long-time favorite get-together for both locals and visitors alike, the Murphys Open House is a great opportunity to experience the town’s famed ambiance and shop locally for the holidays....

In Loving Memory of Lloyd J. Darby 1923 - 2012 |

Murphys, CA...Lloyd J. Darby, was born in Minden, Nevada, March 28, 1923. The family moved to Murphys in 1930 to the Red Apple Ranch owned by his grandparents. Lloyd attended the one room schoolhouse in Avery where Miss Hazel Fischer taught him in all 8 grades. He graduated from Bret Harte High School in 1941. He attended Modesto Junior College where he majored in Aeronautics. He enlisted in the U. S. Air Force during World War II and was a Gunnery Sargent on a B-24. After the war he worked for Blagen Lumber Company in White Pines. He and his brother, Kenneth, were tile contractors as well as owning and operating The Red Apple where they were famous for mountain apples and cider donuts. Lloyd joined the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of California where he was a proud member for 56 years....

Murphys, CA...It is with great sorrow that we announce that Jimmie Pickett, 78, died October 30, 2012 after battling his second round of cancer. A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, November 3rd in Forest Meadows Hilltop Club House at 2:00pm. Potluck reception. He was born February 27, 1934 in Fort Worth Texas to Monte and Ruby Pickett. He married his wife Sandy and moved to California in 1964. Jimmie was an active member of the Moose Lodge, Sons in Retirement (SIRS), and Forest Meadows Men’s Golf Club.... |

Murphys, CA...Ted Brubaker passed away on October 31, 2012 and was a resident of Murphys for 50 years. Ted was born on May 30th, 1926. Ted served in the Army during WWII for two years. Ted brought his family to Murphys in1963. He served the community as the planning director for over 20 years. Ted had a wife, a sister, three children, five grand children, and many friends. He will be remembered as a loving brother, father, and grandfather. “See you in Heaven Dad, we love you!” |
