San Andreas, CA...Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital, through its affiliation with Catholic Healthcare West, has announced the opening of the 2010 CHW Community Grants Program. The deadline for submission of Letters of Intent is August 23, 2010. The objective of CHW’s Community Grants Program is to award funding to nonprofit organizations whose proposals respond to the priorities identified in the community health assessment or the community benefit plans of Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital. The funds are to be used to provide services to underserved populations (economically poor; women and children; mentally or physically disabled; or other disenfranchised populations)...

Central Sierra, CA...The 2010 Central Sierra Economic Profile has been released. Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, Inyo, Mariposa, Mono and Tuolumne comprise this area. Total Nonfarm jobs grew by 24% from 1995-2008, but declined in 2009, resulting in net growth of 15.2% from 1995-2009. Nonfarm jobs declined by 4.4% from March 2008 to March 2009 and again by 0.2% from March 2009 to March 2010. The region’s population grew 4.5% while total employment (including Farm jobs) grew 5% and the average annual wage grew by 30% (2001-2008), although the population declined 0.5% from 2006-2008 and employment declined 1.5% from 2007-2008.
