Now try replacing your morning 2nd latte stop, or your three-hour television ritual with a sweet 45-60 minute fitness regeme. It is actually quite remarkable what secret pockets of time in a day there really are to fit in exercise. Yes that may require waking a bit earlier, but it is possible, and an excuse such as “there is no time to exercise” is nothing more then an excuse. The harsh reality is that by not exercising your life span is reduced, your quality of health is decreased and your disease risk factor increases .....

Bear Valley, CA...The Bear Valley Music Festival tent had a good sized crowd on hand for historian Don De Young's lecture on the secrets of Monte Wolf. Over a period of ten years, using genealogy and handwriting analysis, Don has discovered Monty's true identity, early history, and even living relatives. He will soon commence writing what will surely be the definitive biography of the mysterious mountain man who disappeared without a trace in 1940...


Above is the 1909 booking photo of Archey Wright (Monty's true name) at Folsom Prison where he served 15 months for a minor burglary. The physical report accompanying the photo said he had many scars and gouges as well as two amputated toes, and described him as very muscular.

Bear Valley, CA....The first ever Bear Valley Soccer Camp (BVSC) was held this past weekend, soccer play was hosted at Grizzly Field on the south side of highway 4 just outside the Village of Bear Valley. The 4 day, 3 night camp for boys and girls ages 8-14 consisted of 30 athletes and focused on drills, games and scrimmages designed to develop individual skills as well as on field strategies for ball and off ball play. The camp encouraged full field play to accentuate competitive player as well as recreational player ......

Bear Valley, CA....The Alpine County Chamber of Commerce will hold a mixer & bbq sponsored by the Bear Valley Business Association on Wednesday August 20th at 5:30pm. This event will be held at the Bear Valley Lodge swimming pool. Please bring your favorite Appetizer, Side Dish, Salad or Desert to share with others. Beth and Joe will be BBQ'ing Port Spare ribs this year. Everyone is welcome!

Bear Valley, CA....The Bear Valley Parents Group is proud to announce the 2nd Annual Labor Day Weekend Soap Box Derby, Dinner and FunDrive...The Race is on! "We have 12 cars ready for you to race. Chip Roberts of Headwaters will be preparing the dinner for the event this year and the "Southern Comfort Style" menu has been put together and looks delicious! Bear Valley, CA...Looking for a fun outdoor activity this weekend while supporting a local cause? This weekend hosts the 2nd event of the Bear Valley Adventure Sports Festival series. The "Grizzly Challenge" is a fun mountain bike event which supports the Arnold Rim Trail Association. A small $5 donation enables folks to participate in 2 two hour guided mountain bike rides from the Bear Valley Adventure Company at 10 AM & 2 PM. All abilities are welcome....

Bear Valley, CA.....Wendy “Chris” Desrochers quietly ascended into heaven at her home surrounded by a loving family and the well wishes of her many friends. Chris was born in Seattle, Washington in 1954 to Russ and Betty Phillips. At age two she moved with her musician father and family to Hollywood, California and then to Las Vegas, Nevada eventually settling in Reno where she attended elementary school, junior high and was a spirited and accomplished student at Wooster High School. The family and Chris relocated to Sunnyvale, ....
