Young Bolting Bears to Compete in Off The Beaten Path

Murphys, CA...Members of the Bolting Bears Running club will compete in a special one-mile race during the 7th annual Off the Beaten Path on Saturday, April 28 in Murphys Community Park. The money raised by the event will go to support Mind Matters, the Murphys based non-profit clinic that treats autism and other learning disorders.

San Andreas, CA...The Mark Twain Health Care District was honored to present Golden Health Community Grant Awards to deserving non-profit organizations in Calaveras County. The Community Grant Committee awarded $42,925.00 at a reception on April 25th at the District office in San Andreas.

Sacramento, CA...In an effort to combat the tobacco industry’s latest marketing strategies aimed at getting youth hooked on nicotine, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) today launched a new “Flavors Hook Kids” campaign. The campaign warns parents and concerned adults about the increasing availability of flavored tobacco products targeted to teens. The campaign also highlights how easy it is for kids to purchase flavored tobacco products online.

Atlanta, GA...Eighteen more ill people have been added to the CDC investigation. Five more states have reported ill people: Alaska, Arizona, California, Louisiana, and Montana. Nine more hospitalizations have been reported, including two people who developed a type of kidney failure called hemolytic uremic syndrome. Highlights from the CDC...Information collected to date indicates that chopped romaine lettuce from the Yuma, Arizona growing region could be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7 and could make people sick.
Volunteers Plant the Seeds of Kindness at Mark Twain Medical Center

San Andreas, CA...The month of April is dedicated to honoring all the volunteers in a community and encouraging volunteerism overall. Mark Twain Medical Center Foundation honored the hospital volunteers with an appreciation lunch on April 16th. With the theme “Volunteers Plant the Seeds of Kindness” the event highlighted their many hours spent spreading kindness throughout the hospital and family medical centers. The hospital benefits from 26 human volunteers and three pet volunteers who contributed a combined total of more than 5,100 hours of service annually.

Yosemite Medical Clinic Legislation Passes House Floor

Washington, D.C. – H.R. 3607 by Congressman McClintock to address continued operation of the Yosemite Medical Clinic passed the House floor on April 16th. The legislation addresses all national park medical clinics, assuring that funds generated by clinics be retained by those clinics. Congressman McClintock delivered the following House floor remarks in support of the legislation:
Murphys, CA...Mind Matters is holding its 7th Annual Off the Beaten Path fundraiser on Saturday, April 28th in Murphys Community Park. The money raised will support those individuals and families who are affected by autism spectrum disorder, ADD/ADHD. and/or learning disabilities. The event is open to all ages and includes a 5K walk and a 10K race. The 5K goes out to Ironstone and back. The 10K goes further out Six Mile Road and back. Medallions will be awarded to men and women in each of the four age categories in the 10K run. The walk is a lovely alternative for those who want to walk, stroll, and ride bicycles or tricycles. Families with those in strollers are also encouraged.
