So you’ve decided to move to the country where kids find they need to be creative to find entertainment. The following is an excerpt from my book, “From Positive Test to Empty Nest.” One day after a horrible wind storm I went outside to see that our canvas gazebo had been destroyed. The canvas had been torn from the frame and ultimately the frame had broken. It seemed reasonable to me that a broken gazebo should be dismantled and put in our dumpster. I said this solution seemed reasonable to me, but a solution like that does not even exist in the minds of prepubescent boys and inquisitive teens...... |

Copperopolis, CA...While on a leisurely drive to drop off my mail at the Copperopolis post office this Saturday I was pleasantly surprised to find the street literally lined with motorcycles of all makes and models. I amazingly enough found one little spot in front of Cal Tel, I swooped in and grabbed my camera. After my initial glance around I realized it was not only the street that was full all the way from Reeds Turnpike to the Cal Fire Station, it was the parking lot at Calaveras Telephone, the parking lot at Union Mine Store front and back and every other imaginable nook and cranny that a motorcycle could possibly maneuver into. After wiping the 'kid in a candy store' look from my face I attempted to adopt the appearance of a seasoned journalist but was quickly detected as a newbie. The riders, however, took me under their wing and explained in layman's terms a Poker Run.....

It has been brought to our attention that a group of solicitors using an 800 number is soliciting funds from local businesses representing themselves as the Firefighters of Copperopolis. The Copper Firefighters Association DOES NOT solicit funds over the phone. Our donations come from the hard work of the Copper Fire Auxiliary and many generous individuals and businesses of the area...

Copperopolis, CA..."I have been a permanent resident of Copperopolis for 12 years after having had a summer home on Lake Tulloch since the mid 1970’s. We relocated our family here because we loved the rural community atmosphere and decided to quit our jobs and start anew. My wife Susan, of 40 years developed her own business in Angels Camp and in 1994 I started Calaveras Olive Oil Company. We have 2 sons both graduates of Brete Harte High School. Copperopolis, CA.....Smoking is the cause of a small porch fire that occurred last evening at 3271 Arrowhead Street in Copperopolis. There were no injuries. Estimated damage is $500. Multiple units from Copper Fire responded to the incident. CAL Fire report enclosed....

| Copperopolis, CA...Last evening we reported a vehicle vs. house collision in Copperopolis. A 45 year old Copperopolis women was traveling northbound on Poker Flat Road at 25mph, approaching Jimmy Way. Due to her intoxication, she failed to negotiate a right curve in the roadway. She drove her 1997 Chrysler off the left edge of the roadway and down an embankment, striking a brick wall.... |

So you’ve decided to move to the country where “sleeping under a blanket of stars” is not just an expression, but a reality. After a few months, really more like 10, I have finally adjusted to life with Wyatt in Tombstone. The slow pace, the snakes, the other mysterious wildlife and the absolute quiet. Okay I have not adjusted to the quiet. It’s suspiciously eerie at night when there is absolutely no sound of traffic, no dogs barking, no neighbors moving trash cans at odd hours, nothing, just a loud silence. Oxymoron you say? I think not. As the nights wear on and the children become more adjusted to the deafening silence I find them sleeping less in my bed, therefore I am getting more sleep.....
