Vallejo, CA...USDA Forest Service appreciates the public's interest in outdoor recreation, particularly in light of current events. The Pacific Southwest Region of the Forest Service, in response to the recent statewide shelter-in-place order issued by the Governor of California, is joining the cause to aggressively mitigate the spread of COVID-19 by closing developed recreation facilities on our National Forests statewide.

San Andreas, CA..Calaveras County Public Health Officer Order Clarification of Governor's and State Health Officer's "Stay-at-Home" Order as Related to Lodging Facilities, March 26, 2020. WHEREAS, a state of emergency has been declared by the State of California, and local emergencies have been declared in Calaveras County in response to the virus COVID-19; and WHEREAS, in Calaveras County, as well as throughout California and the nation, there are insufficient quantities of critical healthcare infrastructure, including hospital beds, ventilators and workers, capable of adequately treating mass numbers of patients at a single time — should the virus spread unchecked; and

Major Injures to Valley Springs Woman in Hwy 12 Collision |

San Andreas, CA...A Mokelumne Hill man was driving his Nissan westbound on State Route 12, east of Double Springs Road at approximately 45 mph in hail and heavy rain. A Valley Springs woman was driving her Buick eastbound on State Route 12, east of Double Springs Road at approximately 40 mph in hail and heavy rain. The driver of the Nissan allowed his vehicle to leave the roadway and enter the north shoulder. He over-corrected back to the left and crossed over the solid yellow lines and entered into the eastbound lane directly in the path of the Buick. Consequently, the front end of the Nissan collided with the front end of the Buick. After the collision, all Parties remained on scene for emergency personnel.

School Closure Extension Announced for Calaveras County Schools |

Angels Camp, CA...Based on the recommendations from Dr. Dean Kelaita of the Calaveras County Public Health Department, the Calaveras County superintendents have made a unified, regional decision to extend school closures for at least as long as California Governor Gavin Newsom’s ‘Stay at Home Order’ is in effect. The safety and wellness of students, families and school personnel continues to be the highest priorities of Calaveras County schools and districts. The Calaveras County Office of Education is working closely with local agencies and will provide updated information as it becomes available.

CCWD Reminder to Only Flush Toilet Paper To Help Keep Wastewater Operators Safe |

San Andreas, CA...CCWD would like to remind everyone that, other than human waste, toilet paper is the only acceptable flushable item. Paper towels, sanitary wipes, swiffers, etc., can damage wastewater infrastructure and require operators to work in close proximity to raw sewage. COVID‐19 can be present in wastewater, so it is particularly important during this outbreak that we minimize exposure for wastewater operators.

Angels Camp, CA...Today the Calaveras County Superintendent of Schools Scott Nanik coordinated a conference call with Calaveras County School District Superintendents and the Calaveras County Public Health. Based upon the recommendation of Public Health all Calaveras County schools will be closed immediately with hopes of reopening on April 6, 2020. Student, staff and community safety is our biggest concern.
