Tuolumne Law Enforcement Team Arrests Many in Drug Sweep

Sonora, CA...This week the Tuolumne Narcotics Team, with the assistance of Detectives and Tuolumne County Probation Officers, conducted a large scale operation that netted 14 suspects that were booked into the Tuolumne County Jail for various charges. The investigation focused on narcotics being smuggled into the Tuolumne County Jail via multiple methods ranging from personal letters, contraband being concealed in body cavities and contraband “drops” at the local court houses. Surveillance missions were conducted on multiple occasions during the last month at the Tuolumne County Superior Court buildings, and at least 4 packages were confiscated by Narcotic Agents and Jail Transport Deputies containing methamphetamine, marijuana and tobacco that were destined for the jail.

Sonora, CA...Connie Williams, Stage 3 Theatre Company’s board chair, has announced that the 24-year-old theatre company has exhausted all avenues in locating alternative theatre facilities to complete its 2017 season and must “go dark.” According to Williams, it is not likely that Stage 3 will produce shows until at least mid 2018 to early 2019. “The board has been looking at one building in historic downtown Sonora that might be suitable but renovations will be extensive and will take time and money.”

Sonora, CA...As part of its ongoing efforts to improve pedestrian safety, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and Sonora Police Department (SPD) recently conducted a pedestrian safety enforcement operation that focused on motorists and pedestrians that failed to yield the right-of-way or who take unsafe and illegal actions. Pedestrian safety is a key issue in our community, and the CHP is committed to upholding pedestrian safety laws to protect our citizens.

Tuolumne Man Arrested on Various Charges

Tuolumne, CA...On Saturday evening, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a home in the 18000 block of Evergreen Drive in Tuolumne. A caller reported 31-year-old Lawrence Thompson Jr. was at the residence loading his belongings into a vehicle. Thompson was wanted on several warrants for his arrest.
Angels Camp, CA...Mr. Bailey was driving his 1995 Ford eastbound on State Route 4, east of Bonanza Mine Way at approximately 50 mph. Due to his unsafe speed Mr. Bailey lost control of the vehicle while negotiateing a curve in the roadway. The vehicle began to fishtail and then traveled across all lanes and collided with a metal reflector post and then rolled over.

Sonora, CA...As part of its ongoing efforts to improve pedestrian safety in Tuolumne County, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and Sonora Police Department (SPD), will be conducting a pedestrian safety enforcement operation that will focus on motorists and pedestrians who fail to yield the right-of-way or who take unsafe and illegal actions. On August 29, 2017, the enforcement operation will take place at various crosswalks within the City of Sonora and Tuolumne County. Regrettably, since January 2016, Tuolumne County has experienced 47 traffic collisions involving pedestrians, 25 occurred within the city limits of Sonora. CHP and SPD are committed to preventing these traffic collisions and are leading the effort with proactive enforcement and education programs.
Yosemite, CA...The Empire Fire is being managed for both resource and protection objectives. It is approximately 1 mile south of the Bridalveil Campground east of Alder Creek drainage and west of Bridalveil Creek drainage, burning in Red fir. Fire behavior has been actively flanking and backing with some single and group tree torching. The fire is burning in heavy pockets of dead and down timber, reducing fuels buildup which increases forest resiliency. Projected fire growth is expected in the northeast and southeast flanks.

Jackson, CA...The local Mother Lode League football season is now in full swing. The Argonaut Mustangs rolled over Mesa Verde 31 - 0. Summerville Bearhugged Denair 48 - 2. Calaveras Scalped El Capitan 44 - 24. Amador dropped a close one to Union Mine 7 - 3. The Linden Lions couldn't quite roar enough and dropped a high scoring game to Franklin 44 - 35. The Sonora Wildcats were domesticated by longtime rival Oakdale 47 - 13. The Bret Harte Bullfrogs couldn't get hopping last night and dropped their game to Truckee 61 -7.
