A Very Sad Update....Charles Duston Who Had Been Missing In The Sonora Pass High Country Has Been Found Deceased

Pinecrest, CA...**Update Wed. April 26 at 10:45 PM** Several search and rescue teams have been scouring the area near Eagle Meadow Road in Pinecrest for the last three days, after receiving a report of an overdue snowmobiler. It is with heavy hearts that we report Charles Duston was found deceased early this evening by a search team. Charles was found approximately 4 miles from his snowmobile in a snowy, rugged area. An autopsy will be conducted to determine cause of death. Foul play is not suspected at this time.

The Search Is On For Missing Charles Duston In Sonora Pass High Country

Pinecrest, CA...The search is still on for Charles Duston, 67 years old, 6'1", 170 pounds. Charles has a cabin in the Haypress/Eagle Meadow area. He goes to his cabin often for a week at a time. There is no phone at the cabin but he usually ventures out to "telescope peak" for cell service to check in with his wife but she has not heard from him. He tows his snowmobile, parks his vehicle off of Hwy 108 and rides to the cabin when the road is closed due to snow. He was due to return home yesterday(Monday) but never arrived. His vehicle was located on Hwy 108 at the entrance to Eagle Meadow.

Guardrail Work On Hwy 108 In Twain Harte Area

Tuolumne County – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform one-way traffic control on eastbound and westbound State Route 108 from County Dump Road to Twain Harte Drive for guardrail work. Crews will be working Sunday, April 23, 2017, through Friday, April 28, 2017, from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 a.m. Motorists should expect 10 minute delays. Alternate routes should be taken whenever possible.

Tourism to Yosemite National Park Creates $686,339,500 in Economic Benefits

Yosemite, CA...A new National Park Service (NPS) report shows that 5,028,868 visitors to Yosemite National Park in 2016 spent $520,629,100 in communities near the park. That spending supported 7883 jobs in the local area and had a cumulative benefit to the local economy of $686,339,500. “Yosemite National Park welcomes visitors from across the country and around the world,” said Acting Superintendent Chip Jenkins. “We are delighted to share the story of this place and the experiences it provides. We also feature the park as a way to introduce our visitors to this part of the country and all that it offers. National park tourism is a significant driver in the national economy, returning more than $10 for every $1 invested in the National Park Service, and it’s a big factor in our local economy as well. We appreciate the partnership and support of our neighbors and are glad to be able to give back by helping to sustain local communities.”

Alligator Seized In Jamestown

Jamestown, CA...The Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office received information from a concerned citizen about a Jamestown man who was rumored to be in possession of an alligator. The Fish and Wildlife Warden was contacted and accompanied deputies to the location. The 3 1/2 foot alligator was located on the premise in a heated, rubber lined tank and was seized by the Department of Fish and Wildlife after their investigation determined that the person in possession was not permitted to have the restricted species.

Yosemite National Park Continues to Repair Big Oak Flat Road

Yosemite, CA...Yosemite National Park reports that progress continues to be made on repairs to the Big Oak Flat road. In early April, road crews dug down 65 feet to the bottom of an underground spring that caused soils to erode. The slope has been stabilized and soil and rock have been brought into the park to rebuild the roadbed. As of today, the roadbed has been built up 26 feet, which is about half way to the surface of the road. The park pledges to announce an opening date for the Big Oak Flat road as soon as it becomes available.

Riverside Man Donald L. Culver, 60 Lost His Life In Motorcycle Accident On La Grange Road

La Grange, CA...On Friday, April 14, 2017, at approximately 7:02 pm, 60 year old Riverside resident, Donald L. Culver, was riding his 1997 Harley Davidson northbound on La Grange Road, south of Old Don Pedro Road. Culver drove over the solid double yellow lines, across the southbound lane, and off of the west road edge. Culver lost control of the motorcycle and it overturned. Culver was ejected over 100 feet and sustained fatal injuries. The cause of this collision is still under investigation and as such, impairment has not yet been determined.

Crews will be working Monday, April 17, 2017, through Tuesday, April 18, 2017, from 8:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Motorists should expect 10 minute delays. Alternate routes should be taken whenever possible.
