Boy Scout Troop 302 recently collected over 30 bags of garbage out of the Jenny Lind Veteran's Graveyard, filled over 20 deep holes illegally dug by the river into Lake Hogan, and just gravelled the Calaveras Highschool. Please remember, when you support Boy Scout Troop 302, you become part of a team that "Helps Restore California Today and Create Leaders for Tomorrow!" Come join Boy Scout Troop 302 for a free fun-filled activity day including snow cones,rock walls, tomahawk throwing and lots of other free activities. Everyone is invited! CRAZY EI8HTS Trail Run Series finishes with more distance: A half marathon has been added to final race

Lake Camanche, South Shore, Ca – The third annual CRAZY EI8HTS Trail Run Series concludes with the third and final race on Sunday, August 24 at Lake Camanche, South Shore, meeting up at the Turkey Hill Trail Head, located on Lake Camanche Road. The CRAZY EI8HTS’s trail runs were created so anyone of any ability could participate. That’s not to say there won’t be challenging terrain. The past two trail runs offered runners a choice of either 8K or 8-Mile distances. For the upcoming final event, participants can still choose trail-run distances between the two “8s,” or a half marathon. Map of all three courses. The trails are hilly, scenic, and hard-packed. Registration includes custom T-shirt, customized CRAZY EI8HTS Barking Frog performance headwear, BBQ, and beer garden post event (for those 21-years and older, only). Awards will be given to 1st place in each age group in 10-year brackets and overall men and women’s winners receive a special Pearl Izumi prize pack....

Chronic Disease Self-Management Workshops

Arnold, Ca...A new series of six-week workshops is starting in Arnold this month to teach residents with chronic conditions like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, depression, arthritis or diabetes, the skills to better manage their conditions. The workshops are open to any Calaveras County adults with chronic ongoing conditions and their family members or partners. The no-cost workshops are sponsored by Public Health Services. People with chronic conditions can avoid complications and improve their health through self-management practices. Self-management skills include stress reduction, healthy eating, ensuring good communication with your doctor and physical activity. The workshops are led by trained and certified non-medical community health workers, who also have chronic health conditions and personally understand the challenges. The workshops were developed by Stanford University...

Suspicious Circumstance at Valley Springs Elementary

Valley Springs, CA...On 7-31-2014 at 0810 hours, The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the Valley Springs Elementary to investigate a report of a female student being coaxed to enter a suspicious vehicle. On 07/30/14 at about 1600 hours, a female student rode the bus from Calaveras High School to Valley Springs Elementary. She was waiting for a parent to arrive, when she was approached by an unknown person driving a light blue Chevrolet pickup. The driver pulled along the female student who was standing near the gymnasium and asked her if she needed a ride. The female student refused and the driver accelerated away from her. The driver made no further attempts towards the female student. This incident was initially posted to a social website and later reported to the Sheriff’s Department. The Sheriff’s Department is aware of the incident and conducting follow-up...

County Reaffirms Support For Wild & Scenic Mokelumne River

San Andreas, CA....Playing to a standing room only crowd (At least at the start of the meeting) the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors Voted 4-1 to reaffirm support for a Wild & Scenic Designation for the Mokelumne River. Many, many community members, elected officials, business groups, conservation groups and more weighed in on the topic. Supervisor Edson was the lone vote on the board in opposition. All of the items on the consent agenda passed and the agenda is enclosed again as a reference...
