Winter Storm Warning & Flood Watches in Effect This Week. |

Arnold, CA...Heavy snow and strong wind Tuesday night into Thursday. Pacific storm will bring moderate to heavy snow and strong wind beginning Tuesday afternoon into evening and continuing into Thursday morning. Motorists planning travel into the high country this week should check the latest road and weather conditions, and be prepared for hazardous winter travel. Periods of light to moderate snow showers continue Thursday into Friday as snow levels lower into the foothills. Increased flood potential Tuesday into Thursday...Moderate to heavy rain expected Tuesday night through Wednesday. With streams, creeks, and main stem rivers running at high levels, and already saturated soils, additional rain will increase flooding potential.

Angels Camp, CA...Purim, the Story of Esther and Hamen. The Mother Lode Jewish Community will be holding its annual Purim Party - with an Out of This World/Space Traveler theme, on Saturday evening, March 23rd in Murphys. Purim is a festive Jewish Holiday that commemorates the defeat of Haman's plot to massacre the Jews as recorded in the book of Esther. The MLJC’s annual Purim Party is a potluck dinner affair for the entire family, from 6 to 10 pm, with live music and a chance to participate in, or enjoy the antics of, the MLJC Thespians …as well as eat lots ‘n lots of Hamentashen! Attendees are encouraged to come as their favorite space traveler. The potluck dinner will be vegetarian Mediterranean & Middle Eastern.

Arnold, CA...If you are heading to the hills to recreate today pack your chains as these are the conditions in our area at this time. On Hwy 88 you can reach Kirkwood from the west today but you will need to chain up 6 miles past Ham Station. On Hwy 4 traction aids are needed at Tamarack. Hwy 108 is chain control free at this time...

Jackson Rancheria Donates $10,000 to Calaveras Community Foundation |

Jackson, CA...The Jackson Rancheria Band of Miwuk Indians recently donated $10,000 to the Calaveras Community Foundation (CCF). Rich Hoffman, CEO, at Jackson Rancheria Casino and Hotel, has been a loyal supporter and business partner for many years. The Rancheria is dedicated to their commitment in supporting the local community and non-profit organizations in Calaveras County. During those years, over $100,000 has been donated to the Foundation. In addition, Rancheria employees are making individual donations to CCF via payroll deductions. The CCF’s grant program benefits from these donations. 2019’s grant program is now in the final stages and recipients will be chosen shortly.

Below is Caltrans plans for repairs and maintenance on local roads. It shows the route, county, and location of the possible repairs. Weather and other factors can alter their schedule. Arnold, CA...Road Condition & Chain Control Updates for Hwys 4, 26, 49, 88, 108 & 120. Closures on Hwy 88 have the Kirkwood area as an island. Hwy 88 is closed at the Carson Spur area before Kirkwood on the west and at the Carson Pass Summit area to the east. Chains are required on Hwy 4 from 4.5 miles east of Arnold. Hwy 26 remains closed from Glencoe to West Point due to mudslide repairs. On Hwy 108 you will need to engage the 4wd 1 mile past Long Barn to get up to Dodge Ridge. Stay safe and enjoy the snow...

Jackson, CA...On Valentine’s Day, Hospice of Amador & Calaveras announced the seven lucky winners in the 10th Annual ‘Take a Chance on Love’ Valentine’s Day Drawing at the Jackson Hospice Thrift Store. Livestreamed on KVGC Radio and Facebook, viewers and attendees at the drawing were also treated to a tour of the newly refreshed store while awaiting the names at 12 noon.

The bus will be in Jackson on Tuesday and Wednesday and in Sonora on Thursday and Friday. Free tax preparation is open to qualified Amador, Calaveras and Tuolumne county residents. Arnold, CA...It looks to be another busy few days of weather. At this time you will need to engage the 4wd from Camp Connell on up on Hwy 4. On Hwy 88 Kirkwood is again an island. Hwy 88 is closed in the Carson Spur area to block access from the west. From the east Hwy 88 is closed in the Carson Pass summit area. Hwy 26 is still closed for repairs between Glencoe and West Point. On Hwy 108 you will need they traction aids east of Long Barn. Chains are required in Yosemite National Park.
