Burn Permits Required May 1, 2012

San Andreas, CA...Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at 8AM, the Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) will require burning permits within State Responsibility Areas of Tuolumne County, Calaveras County, Eastern Stanislaus County and Eastern San Joaquin County. Until CAL FIRE stations are fully staffed later in the season, permits will be available only during business hours Monday through Friday, at the following locations...

Tuolumne - Calaveras Wind Fires Update...Over 700 Acres Burned in Wind Related Fires

San Andreas, CA...At peak well over 200 fire personal were fighting the wind driven fires in the TCU area. There was the Ferndale fire on Priest Grade that was 3 acres. The Mountain Fire near Bald Mountain with was 9 acres and the Ridgewood fire at 2-3 acres all in Tuolumne County. Calaveras County had the fires that consumed the most acreage with the Blue fire at 722 acres and is still not fully controlled and the East fire at 44 acres. At peak over 200 personal, 22 engines and additional aircraft as well...

EPFD Statement on Death of Engineer/Paramedic Todd Walker

Arnold, Ca...On Nevember 28, 2011, the Ebbetts Pass Fire District lost a good friend and colleague. Engineer/Paramedic Todd Walker unexpectedly passed away while off duty with his family. He was 38 years old. Engineer Walker started working full-time for the the Fire District in 2002. Prior to that he also worked for the Ripon Fire Protection District and American Mecidal Response. He was a devoted and loving father, son and husband. He leaves behicnd a wife, four children and one on the way. Please keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers...

Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit Moves to Winter Preparedness

San Andreas – On Monday, November 14, 2011, at 8AM, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) will complete the transition into winter preparedness in the Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit (TCU). This includes the counties of Calaveras, Tuolumne, and those eastern portions of San Joaquin and Stanislaus that are within the State Responsibility Area, as well as lands within the Direct Protection Area (DPA) of the Stanislaus National Forest. While some CAL FIRE engines will remain available through winter, the transition allows CAL FIRE to release seasonal firefighters, reduce staffing on fire engines and close remote wildland fire stations. CAL FIRE is prepared to call additional resources back if fire weather conditions dictate....

Injured Firefighter Condition Still Listed as Serious

Copperopolis, CA...Two days after a structure fire sent a firefighter to the hospital, the injured CAL FIRE Captain remains in serious condition at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. Fire Captain Sue Arrouzet, 45 of Tracy, has been with CAL FIRE for 22 years and is currently assigned to the CAL FIRE Copperopolis Fire Station. Captain Arrouzet remains in good spirits surrounded by family and co-workers and will likely be transferred to a San Francisco hospital for recovery....

Winton-Schaads Prescribed Burn Near West Point

San Andreas – The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) will be conducting a prescribed burn in the Lily Valley area east of West Point. The proposed 270 total acres included in the Winton-Schaads Prescribed Burn project slated for Fall 2011 will be divided up into smaller, approximately 20-30 acre areas which will be treated starting as early as October 31, 2011 with burns possible through mid-December. One to two CAL FIRE engines along with personnel from Sierra Pacific Industries (SPI) will conduct the burns...
