Sonora, CA...The Sierra Nevada Logging Museum is now open for the 2016 season. Open Thursday through Sunday from noon until 4 pm from the first of April to about the first of December, depending on the weather. The Sierra Nevada Logging Museum • Conveys the history of the logging and lumbering industry as it evolved in the Sierra Nevada region since the mid 1800s before the discovery of gold to the present day. • Educates visitors about the economic, social, cultural and environmental effects of this industry on the development of communities in the Sierra Nevada. • Acts as a resource center for education and historical research. • Describes current trends in the Sierra Nevada logging and lumber industry, and the social and economic influences that continue to shape it. • Keeps the history of the logging industry in the Sierra Nevada region alive so that its historical relevance is not lost.

VUSD Earns Gold Ribbon Honors For Albert Michelson & Hazel Fischer Elementary Schools

Sacramento, CA...State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson announced that 772 elementary schools are being honored under the Gold Ribbon Schools Awards Program.  Here locally Vallecito Unified earned top honors for two of their three schools and Amador County placed two on the list.   "These schools shine as bright beacons for others, putting forth an exemplary effort to ensure that every student is ready for 21st century college and careers," Torlakson said. "California teachers are developing an education model for the nation, training the students of today to be the problem-solvers, inventors, and pioneers of tomorrow."

Markleeville, CA...An update on the Ebbetts Pass Rockslide: First and foremost, our deepest thanks to our friends at CalTrans and specifically the actual blasters, Brees and Bickor. Great job gentlemen and thank you for the photos! Statistics: 5 days total of reductions, 3 of those days used explosives. They drilled 58 holes and used 33 pounds of explosives. Total estimated yardage of the slide is at 700 yards.

Arnold Pipeline Replacement Community Meeting April 26 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Arnold, CA...The Calaveras County Water District is holding a community meeting from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday April 26 to provide residents with information regarding the Reach 3A Transmission Pipeline Replacement Project. Construction will begin in May and the project is expected to be complete in November. This project will replace about 20,000 feet of 12-inch diameter transmission pipeline that runs from the Arnold Cal-Fire Station along Highway 4 to Blagen Road and terminates at CCWD’s sawmill tank above White Pines.
