Alpiveras, County, CA...The Ebbetts Pass Scenic Byway Association (EPSBA) will be hosting our 5th Annual Scenic Celebration on Saturday, September 10th. We invite music and mountain fans to "Come Play on the Pass" with us. The centerpiece of our celebration will be our day long, free live music event in Hermit Valley which we affectionately refer to as "Hermitfest" but visitors should definitely make a weekend of it and spend some time checking out the entire Scenic Byway from Arnold to Markleevile...

Arnold, CA....Chapel in the Pines, 2286 Cedar Lane, Arnold, will be hosting an outdoor, community-wide service on Sunday, September 11, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel parking lot. The focus will be to honor and celebrate our local fire, law enforcement and active military. Fire Chief Dave Baugher, Cal-Fire Chief Jeff Millar, Sheriff Gary Kuntz and County Supervisor Merita Callaway will be present to honor these heroes. Please invite your friends and neighbors. Lunch will be provided following the service.

The Ebbetts Pass Scenic Byway Association will be hosting our 5th Annual Scenic Celebration on September 10th from 11 am to 5 pm. We invite you to come "Play on the Pass with us from Arnold to Markleevile. The centerpiece of the event is "Hermitfest," a day long, solar powered, free concert featuring The Tour Guides, Bill Welles, Jens Jarvie and Grover Anderson at Hermit Valley on Highway 4 about 38 miles east of Arnold and 23 miles west of Markleeville. There will be food, raffle prizes, beverages and souvenirs available for sale and free activities for the kids.....

Arnold, CA...Co-owners, Nicole Cockshott and Gail Szukalski met while Nicole was working an office job and Gail was working retail. Gail was also making and selling jewelry and Nicole was dabbling in the "craft" business on the side. After doing a few craft fairs together, they decided to hold a "Boutique" one Thanksgiving weekend at Gail's house. It was quite successful and more importantly, the feedback positive. What the heck! Craft fairs were such a pain, why not open a gift shop! The girls decided to quit their "real" jobs and get moving...

| What is it that brings people to say, “I love living in a small town”? The list is long but a true sense of community with neighbors helping neighbors is usually very high on the list. Especially as our lives become challenged by hard times. A perfect example is the Laucci family of Arnold. Having lived in the County for close to 45 years they are an important part of the fabric of the community. They worked in various businesses and currently own Highlands Bookstore in Arnold. They knew everyone and everyone knew them. John, Carla and daughter Rosa enjoyed all that small town living had to offer..... |
