The Big 17th Annual Logging Jamboree is Sept 1st, 2012 |

White Pines, CA...The 17th Annual Logging Jamboree will be held at the Sierra Nevada Logging Museum amphitheater on Saturday, Sept. 1. Amateur competition will begin at 9 am and the professionals will start competing at about 12 noon. The show should end about 5 pm and there will be no musical program following due to a general lack of interest in past years. There will be great food, soda, wine, and beer, games for the kids, tours of the museum, a raffle and much more. Great fun for the whole family. Watch amateurs and professionals alike saw, chop, throw axes, chainsaw, hot saw, walk fallen small trees to demonstrate that they can avoid cutting off their toes, and more....

Ebbetts Pass, CA...August 17th...Today while returning from a backpacking trip, we encountered a long roadblock on Hwy 4 below Cascade Creek due to several landslides. The Sheriff, CHP, and CalTrans worked hard to get the road opened. It had rained and hailed earlier adding to the delay..

September 8, 2012 - Hermit Valley - Join the Ebbetts Pass Scenic Byway Association for an all day long free live music event in Hermit Valley which we affectionately refer to as Hermitfest. There will be booths, food, activities for kids and plenty of great music from 12 until 7….stick around a little longer and enjoy the musicians jamming together around the campfire. There will be concurrent celebrations in Markleeville including our popular fish plant at the Carson River Resort. The drawing for our beautiful byway quilt will be held at Hermit Valley. Raffle tickets are available now at select locations and events including the Calaveras Visitors Bureau in Angels Camp...

Ganns Meadow, CA...Summary: Fire crews will remain on scene for the next several days and continue with fire line suppression repair to accomplish the objective of minimizing the potential for use of fire lines as future trails or confusion regarding proper route, and minimizing erosion and sediment movement on the fire line. Crews will also continue with patrolling established fire lines and mopping-up hot spots remaining in the interior of the fire. Transfer of command back to the local forest occurred this morning at 6:00 AM....
Bill Goff, a lifelong resident of the county, expresses his gratitude to the crews that saved his new home (still under construction) in Ganns meadow. Ganns Meadow, CA...Summary: Fire crews will continue with Fire Suppression Repair objectives today. The objective of fire suppression repair is to minimize the potential for use of fire lines as future trails or confusion regarding proper route, and minimizing erosion and sediment movement on the fire line. Crews will also continued with patrolling established fire lines and mopping-up hot spots remaining in the interior of the fire. Steep terrain, heavy fuels adjacent to the line and limited access along the Stanislaus River continue to be concern for firefighters. Increased demobilization of resources will occur today from this incident to help support other incidents in the state....

The acres burned were adjusted due to more accurate mapping of the fire perimeter. Transfer of command from the Incident Management Team back to the local forest will occur on Monday morning at 6:00 AM.... |
