Groundbreaking Ceremony for New Visitor Center Slated for June 18th!

Big Trees State Park, CA....Calaveras Big Trees State Park, CA...Local and regional park officials have been notified that the state has finally approved construction of a new Visitor Center for the state park oh Highway 4 in Calaveras County. Work should begin before the end of summer. The project has been in the works for more than 15 years, encountered numerous delays, and the state had asked for bids at least twice. The most recent holdup was caused by the Department of Finance waiting to make sure the park was not on the list of state parks to be closed due to California’s budget problems. Earlier delays were attributed to changes in state fire codes and revisions to the site and building plans. ....

Arnold, CA...Stop by the CHS Thrift Store Adoption Center in Arnold , Thurs - Sat., 10-5pm. Located in the Meadowmont Shopping Center next to Round Table Pizza - Ph.# 209-795-GIVE. "Little Two-Tone" is an orange and white tabby boy who loves to "make dough", even in the air. He loves to snuggle in your arms and should have the nick name "lover boy" because he is so loving.....purrs all the time! At approx. 11 weeks old he is learning to climb a tree and run in the grass. He turns flips and summer saults. He loves playing .....

White Pines, CA...W.R. Pete Bowman passed away on May 29, 2011. Mr. Bowman was born on February 14, 1923 in Waterford, CA. He had lived in White Pines for 67 years. He was a World War II Veteran where he was medical Corpsmen. After his return from the war he worked as a logger for the Linebaugh Logging Co. for 16 years and then opened and operated White Pines Welding for 25 years until his retirement in 1988...

Our annual Father's Day Derby is just around the corner on June 19Th. Don't miss the opportunity to catch the fish of a lifetime and enjoy a day of fishing at beautiful White Pines Lake. This is completely a non profit event with the entry fees going toward the planting of rainbow trout in White Pines Lake. The entry fee is $5.00 for 12 years and older and free for under 12 years old. The Derby starts at safe light to 4:00pm with awards after. There are loads of prizes for the winners of each category. Arnold, CA...Robert (Bob) Franklin Bergren passed away on Saturday May 14, 2011 at his home in Arnold, Ca. Robert was born in Red Oak, Iowa on August 17, 1936, the son of Victor and Mabel (Bruce) Bergren. He was raised and attended school in Red Oak. In his High School years he worked for Nelson's Dairy. After college in Feb of 1957, at the age of 19, he moved to California with his best friend Don Witt. On March 5th of that same year he landed a job at Pacific Bell. His career in telecommunications lasted 36 years. .....
