Sacramento, CA...Assemblyman Frank Bigelow Congratulates the 5th Assembly District’s Veteran of the Year, Don Cuneo! Born near San Andreas and a graduate of Calaveras High School, Cuneo enlisted in the US Navy in 1942. Don served on the USS McCord, a destroyer that patrolled all over the South Pacific. He later went to San Diego and went to fire control school, and then he served on the USS Columbus in Boston getting ready for the invasion of Japan. He was in the Navy from November of 1942 to November 1945, earning the Good Conduct Medal and left the Navy as a Fire Control Man, 3rd Class.

Rail Road Flat, CA...On 6-13-18 members of the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Marijuana Enforcement Team served a search warrant for illegal marijuana/cannabis cultivation at an address in the 2000 block of Mason Road, Railroad Flat. This site was previously registered as a commercial medical cannabis cultivation site. Deputies seized 1,309 marijuana plants, 171.56 pounds of processed marijuana and issued three citations for the three subjects located on the property at the time of the search warrant.

Valley Springs, CA...The Valley Springs area has been ground zero for much of the recent fire activity. There have been several fires in the area including a controlled burn getting ready for the firworks show on June 23rd. From CAl-Fire..."CAL FIRE TCU Firefighters with assistance from Calaveras Consolidated Fire quickly contained a vegetation fire in the Valley Springs area this evening. San Andreas, CA...Raymond Lloyd Donovan, Born on March 3rd, 1926 and passed away on June 4th, 2018 in San Andreas at the age of 92 from natural causes. He was a Staff Sergeant in the Army Air Corps. He loved to camp and was a camp host for many years.
CAL FIRE Suspends Burn Permits in Tuolumne, Calaveras, Eastern Stanislaus and Eastern San Joaquin Counties

San Andreas, CA...After a wet winter, warming temperatures are quickly drying out the abundant annual grass crop. The increasing fire danger posed by the high volume of dead grass and hotter, drier conditions in the region is prompting CAL FIRE to suspend all burn permits for outdoor residential burning within the State Responsibility Area of Tuolumne and Calaveras Counties. This suspension takes effect at 8:00 a.m., Monday, June 11th, 2018 and bans all residential outdoor burning of landscape debris such as branches and leaves.
