Caldor Fire's Destruction Maps Shows 994 Structures Destroyed as of This Morning |

Grizzly Flats, CA...As the Caldor Fire enters the demobilization and repopulation phase in a growing portion of the fire one of the saddest and stark reminders of what many of our friends, neighbors & some of you will be going through. As of this morning the stark and sobering total is 994 Structures Destroyed. In the map below are photo after photo of homes and memories destroyed. Our hope is with the destruction there can at some point be a sense of renewal and rebirth of homes, dreams and new memories. The link to the sobering map is below...

Arnold, CA...Well with Labor Day in the rearview mirror it is time to start think about fall. Cool crisp mornings, warm comfortable afternoons and a sweatshirt or two to take the chill out of the air in the evenings. Well that remains just a fantasy as we have triple digit temps for most of our areas and heat warnings till Thursday. The Detailed forecast for West Slope Northern Sierra Nevada. Today, Mostly sunny. Haze and patchy smoke. Highs 78 to 93 higher elevations...91 to 103 lower elevations. Prevailing east winds up to 10 mph shifting to the west in the afternoon.

50% Containment Reached on Caldor Fire! 996 Structures Destroyed & Repopulations Accelerate |

South Lake Tahoe, CA...About six miles of additional containment line were secured along the westside of Christmas Valley and the area east of Meyers allowing the Eldorado County Sheriff’s Office to downgrade another Evacuation Order to a Warning in South Lake Tahoe area of the Pioneer Trail. The fire remained active along the northeast and southern edges of the perimeter. Hand crews and aircraft continue to work in the rugged and remote areas of the fire, mopping up and mitigating any threats to control lines. Adverse wind conditions in the Kirkwood Area along Highway 88 challenged firefighters as spotting continues to occur within interior islands. Tonight, crews will stay diligent patrolling the fire, seeking out hot material, and mitigating threats to structures. Damage inspections continue with approximately 95% of structures assessed.

South Lake Tahoe, CA...September 5, 2021, 3:00 p.m. WHAT: Evacuation Orders Downgraded WHEN: Effective Immediately WHERE: El Dorado County Evacuation Order Update: The following Evacuation Orders have been downgraded to Evacuation Warnings in El Dorado County: South Lake Tahoe City Limits - From the Nevada State line west along Highway 50 to the Tahoe airport. Highway 89 from the city northwest to the city's edge at West Way. Also Pioneer Trail from state line west to Al Tahoe Blvd. North of the City of South Lake Tahoe - All properties on the East (lake side) of Highway 89 extending north from the city limits to Emerald Bay. All properties on both sides of Highway 89 extending North from Emerald Bay through Tahoma. The area of Fallen Leaf Lake, Christmas Valley, Meyers, and North Upper Truckee remains under an evacuation order.

South Lake Tahoe, CA...Caldor Fire East Zone Situation Summary: Weather continued to moderate yesterday with cooler temperatures in the 70’s and lighter southwest winds and some gustier conditions on the ridge tops. Fire growth was minimal on the East Zone with some perimeter expansion near Cold Creek on the northeast edge, at Luther Spire east of Christmas Valley, and in timber stringers north of Caples Lake. Today the inversion will break around 10 a.m. when fire behavior may begin to increase. Relative humidity is expected to be in the teens, winds will switch to the east-southeast with gusts to 20 mph on ridges. Exceptionally dry fuel conditions exist in and round the fire area.

Alpine & Amador Counties, CA...The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) wants to remind motorists that as of Thursday, September 2, 2021, State Route 88 remains closed from Peddler Hill in Amador County to State Route 89/Picketts Junction in Alpine County due to the Caldor Fire in the Sierra Nevada.

Grizzly Flats, CA...Calmer winds and return of moderate humidity to some areas of the fire reduced activity overnight however spotting and fire spread still occurred along the northern edge of the fire. Firefighters will work today to bolster lines where large pockets of previously unburned fuel threaten existing control lines. Damage inspection is in progress with approximately 60% of structures inspected to date.

Grizzly Flats, CA...The top map is the NASA/USFS heat map. In the heat map you can tell it burned across Hwy 89 and is racing behind South Lake Tahoe on the ridge towards Heavenly Ski Resort. Yesterday Sierra at Tahoe today Heavenly & Kirkwood? Time will tell. On the southern leg the fire has crossed Hwy 88 and getting close to Kirkwood. It burned through the beautiful section of woods between Silver Lake and the Carson Spur area and is climbing over the hill to Kirkwood. That area has less vegetation and more rock which may slow it down a bit. All the images below are links to take you to the source documents. The following text is from the Caldor Incident Command.
