Credit Card Fraud Arrest In Sonora

Sonora, CA...12 August 2014, at approx. 6:55 pm, a male subject entered Applebee’s Restaurant and attempted to purchase gift cards. However, the credit card he presented to the employee was declined. At that point, the employee noticed the card looked fraudulent. She also noticed the subject who had presented the card, matched the description of a subject who had been using counterfeit credit cards during the past two months to purchase hundreds of dollars worth of gift cards. Another employee confirmed this was the same subject, who had been using fraudulent cards to purchase gift cards...

Columbia College Hosts X-Reg on August 14th for New Students!

Sonora, Ca...With expanded course offerings available online, at the Sonora main campus, in Calaveras and in Oakdale, Columbia College is making registration easy for its new students attending the fall semester. Extreme Registration, or X-Reg, will be held at the main Sonora campus on Thursday, August 14 beginning at 9:00 a.m.—last seating for assessment/orientation is at 2:00 p.m. Students can complete assessment, orientation and advisement, plus register for classes, pay fees, buy books, get student ID cards, purchase parking passes, find out about campus child care, clubs, athletics, and more. College staff will be on-hand to provide information on financial aid and special programs, like EOPS (Extended Opportunities Programs and Services) and DSPS (Disabled Students Programs and Services). Students will also learn how to access connectColumbia to register online, obtain grades, and get instructions on activating their student email accounts. Those seeking financial aid must bring 2013 income information, or parents’ 2013 income information (if dependents). In addition, any records of untaxed income, such as state disability or child support payments will be helpful...

Tuolumne Sheriff's Office Looking For Pellet Gun Bandit In Attempted Robbery

Columbia, CA...On 8/10/14 about 9:00 PM the suspect entered the R&L Mini Mart on Parrots Ferry Road in Columbia. The suspect brandished a weapon, that was later identified as a “pellet gun” in an attempt to get the clerk to turn over money from the store. After a short altercation with the clerk, the suspect fled the store without obtaining any money or merchandise. A search of the area was conducted the pellet gun used in the attempted robbery was located by responding Deputies but the suspect was not located....

The Final El Portal Fire Update...4,689 Acres, 100% Contained, Costs to Date: $10.6 million

Yosemite, CA...This is the final update on the El Portal fire. The incident will transition to a smaller local team of 36 personell at 06:00 Saturday morning August 9th. The Incident Command Post and fire camp at Drew Meadow will be disbanded and restored to pre fire camp condition. All roads in Yosemite National Park are open. Bridalveil Campground and Crane Flat Campground are open to the public. Yosemite Creek and Foresta Campgrounds are closed. Visitors are reminded that the fire area is closed to the public. Fire Summary: The fire is 100% contained. Crews will continue to mop up, secure, and rehabilitate the El Portal fire line....

Fire Update....Grass Fire Taken Care Of In Chinese Camp

Chinese Camp, CA....Crews from ground and air quickly jumped on a grass fire in the Hwy 120 & Hwy 49 area. Initially it spread quickly to 50 acres or so before they got it knocked down. The roads in the area were briefly closed as well. Great work everyone...

Tuolumne County Man Indicted For Starting RIM Fire

Fresno, CA...A federal grand jury returned a four-count indictment today, charging Keith Matthew Emerald, 32, of Columbia, with starting a fire that eventually burned more than 250,000 acres, including large areas in the Stanislaus National Forest and Yosemite National Park, United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner and U.S. Forest Service Pacific Southwest Regional Forester Randy Moore announced. The Rim Fire, which burned for nine weeks, was the largest fire in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in recorded history....

CoyoteFest … A Howl of an Event!

Coulterville, Ca...Encompassing a parade and car show along Coulterville's Historic Main St. as well as the 29th annual Coyote Howl, live music, a horseshoe contest and purveyors of food, beverages and merchandise in the Coulterville Park, this year’s expanded CoyoteFest takes place on Saturday, September 27th, beginning at 10 am. Mr. Stilts will be strolling ‘round town and wagon rides will also be wending their way around Coulterville. Filling out the day is a roast beef dinner just across the street from the park for those still hungry. Entrance to both the park and the Main St. car show is free! The parade starts off the day, with the cars peeling off and parking in front of merchant sponsors stores. The Coyote Hill band will also start at that time performing in the park until 1 pm. Then the hot vibes from the Kick Start band will take over and fill the park with music until about 4 pm. A big thank you to Rabobank, Wildfire Ranch and Yosemite Bank, this year’s entertainment sponsors for underwriting such terrific talent!...

Cracks Reported In Twain Harte Dam With Water Flowing Through....Operators Concerned About Dam Failure

Sonora, CA...At 10:45am the operator of the Twain Harte Dam reported cracks being observed in the Dam with water flowing through the cracks. Loud booms are being heard near the reservoir...which could signal a potential failure of the dam. The complete warning is enclosed.... (Update as of 11:42am...We just checked in with TCU Command to see if they had been mobilized for potential evacuations etc. At this time it appears to be just a Flash Flood Warning. More to follow....
