Hwy 108 Head On Collision Injures Modesto Pair

Sonora, CA...This collision occurred as 55 year old Modesto resident, Mr. Tresenriter, was driving his 2007 Toyota Camry westbound on SR-108 west of Mono Way. At this time, 32 year old Mountain View resident, Mr. Rapozo, was driving his 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee eastbound on SR-108, approaching Mr. Tresenriter. Mr. Tresenriter, mistaking the oncoming traffic lane as a passing lane, allowed his Camry to cross the center line of the road. Mr. Tresenriter immediately realized the mistake he had made and abruptly swerved his Camry back into the westbound traffic lane where he lost control of the vehicle.

Major Injuries to Twain Harte Woman in Tuolumne Road Hit & Run

Twain Harte, CA...Ms. Porta was traveling southbound on Tuolumne Road North in a 2015 Jeep Wrangler. An unknown dark colored pickup truck was traveling northbound ahead of Ms. Porta. For an undetermined reason, the trailer being pulled by the dark colored pickup truck swung into the southbound lane and collided with the Jeep driven by Ms. Porta. Following the collision, the dark colored truck fled the scene. A witness indicated that the truck returned to the scene shortly after the collision and then fled again.

TTUOLUMNE COUNTY — The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will be performing various road construction activities on State Route 108 (SR-108) from SR-120 to Draper Mine Road. Work will occur as follows: Various full off and on-ramp closures on eastbound and westbound SR-108 from Mono Way to Peaceful Oak Road beginning Sunday, October 8, 2017, through Friday, October 13, 2017, from 8:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m.

Special Event Closure on Hwy 49

SONORA – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will conduct intermittent full-highway closures on State Route 49 from Snell Road to Green Street on Friday, October 13, 2017, from 2:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. for a special event. Motorists should expect 15 minute delays. Alternate routes should be taken whenever possible. This closure is scheduled to begin as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents or related issues.

TUOLUMNE COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will be performing various road construction activities on State Route 49 (SR-49) from Chicken Ranch Road to SR-108. Work will occur as follows: Full connector-ramp closure from SR-49 to the SR-49/SR-108 bypass (that leads to downtown Sonora) beginning Sunday, October 8, 2017, until Friday, October 13, 2017, from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. for paving.

Redwood City Man Attempts to Steal Sheriff's Dept. Employee's Vehicle

Sonora, CA...On Sunday October 1st, 2017, shortly before 2:00 P.M., Sonora Police Department received a call of a male subject that had been detained by Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Deputies for tampering with a Sheriff’s Department employee’s vehicle in front of the Sheriff’s Department. Sonora Police Officers responded and discovered that Antonio Torres, 42 years old of Redwood City, was discovered by Sheriff’s deputies tampering with a Sheriff’s Department employee’s private vehicle.

Live Fire Training Burn of Medusahead, Grass & Oak Understory

San Andreas, CA...The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) will be conducting live fire training in Tuolumne County. This training is designed to instruct fireline supervisors, from around the Unit, in proper techniques to plan and conduct complex firing operations during wildland fire suppression operations. Students will learn how to apply fire, to fight fire. They will also learn the proper techniques to ignite and control fire that is outside the perimeter of an approaching wildland fire. This technique is utilized to starve the wildfire of available vegetation, thus aiding in suppression efforts.
