Copperopolis Dons its Leather and Revs it Engines for Leslie Rabeneau~By Charity Maness

Copperopolis, CA.....Saturday not only brought with it incredibly beautiful weather but an opportunity for this town and the friends of Leslie Rabeneau to come together as one in support of this wonderful women’s battle against lymphoma. The Sport’s Pub, owned by Micki and Larry Phillips of Copperopolis, pulled out all the stops this weekend throwing a brilliant scenic 55 mile loop Poker Run through the historical towns of Copperopolis, Angels Camp, Columbia, Sonora, and Jamestown. At 10:00 am the sleepy town of Copper came alive with the thundering yet melodious sound of 60 plus.....

Copperopolis, CA...Over the years Micki and Larry, owners of the Sports Pub in Copperopolis, have been huge supporters seemingly every Copperopolis community project and fund that has come through town, from youth sports to blood drives. Over the summer Micki and Larry raised funds for the Copperopolis Elementary sixth grade science camp by putting on a youth chili-off and running 50/50 raffles. With their help approximately 4 children will be able to attend science camp this year...

Copperopolis, CA....Meeting reconvened to open session with all board members present, Eltringham being back from an extended multi month vacation, and many parents and citizens in attendance. Many charts and graphs were shown to elaborate the rise in API test scores throughout the school district. API, Academic Performance Index, is a public schools accountability system that measures achievement based on state requirements. The Copperopolis Community Center once again put on a great history tour for the children of Copperopolis Elementary Monday complete with a tour of our own history museum. If one was fortunate enough, one would per chance happen to drive by as the Keeper of the Keys himself was closing up shop for the next couple of months one might get a personal tour. Keep in mind, the Copperopolis Historical museum is only open to the public one day per year at their annual Homecoming Celebration. In 2010 the town will commemorate the 150 year birthday of Copperopolis......

Copperopolis Town Square Hosts Oktoberfest and Art Show....Free Event Features Live Music, Authentic German Food and Contests

Copperopolis, CA..... Copperopolis Town Square, the area’s new entertainment and retail hub will host Oktoberfest on Oct. 3 – sponsored by Castle & Cooke and The Copper Cove Lake Tulloch Lions Club – featuring live music, authentic German food, an art show highlighting work from local artists and a beer stein contest. The event runs from noon until 5 p.m. and is free to the general public. The beer stein contest is open to anyone who brings their own stein and awards will be given out in five categories including; largest, smallest, most decorative, funniest and most unique. Judging will be handled by the local German club......

Is it a knee jerk reaction to over crowding and what is termed the “dumbing” down of curriculum, or is it the sign of the times?....
