Bear Valley Adventure Company Opens for Summer Season

Bear Valley, CA...We opened the store today, Saturday, May 23rd. It feels a little weird as the state is still under "Shelter In Place", but also the right thing to do for those in the area. Essential items such as gas, food, and supplies are available daily from 9am - 5pm, and our "Bear B-Que" is serving from 11am - 3pm on the weekends.

Markleeville, CA...From the Markleeville General Store on fish plants in the High Sierra ahead of Memorial Day Weekend...."Our fishing board this week! Average size of fish planted is 4.4 pounds. They have been catching, so if you get a good fish, bring it in and we will weigh and measure it then post it here."

Lake Tahoe, CA/NV...On May 20th we had a business meeting that couldn't be done remotely in the Lake Tahoe area and we thought we would take the opportunity while we were there to see how the Coronovirus shutdown has affected our neighbors to the north. As depressing as it has been in the Mother Lode and Western Slope areas to us it appeared the Tahoe area has fared worse.

Local COVID-19 Testing Opening Soon at Frogtown for Calaveras & Tuolumne Counties

Angels Camp, CA...As part of efforts to expand COVID-19 testing throughout the State, a testing site serving people from Tuolumne and Calaveras Counties to be open effective Friday, May 29. The testing site will open at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds located just outside historic downtown Angels Camp. OptumServe, a health services partner with the State of California, will coordinate services with the public health officials from both counties. “We are very pleased to have this expanded access to testing available to our residents. Increased access to testing will allow our community to identify cases quickly and stay in containment.” said Dr. Liza Ortiz, Interim Tuolumne County Health Officer.

Kennedy Space Center, FL...NASA is inviting the public to help celebrate a historic milestone in human spaceflight as it prepares for #LaunchAmerica – the first flight into orbit of American astronauts on American rockets from American soil since the end of the space shuttle era in 2011. Known as NASA’s SpaceX Demo-2 test flight, which is targeted for lift off at 4:33 p.m. EDT Wednesday, May 27, this mission will send NASA astronauts Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley to the International Space Station as part of the agency’s Commercial Crew Program. Members of the public can attend the launch virtually, receiving mission updates and opportunities normally received by on-site guests.

Lake Tahoe, CA/NV...The Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority, the tourism agency representing California and Nevada on the South Shore, is reminding visitors that nonessential travel is still prohibited for the holiday weekend by governmental and health organizations. California’s stay at home order is still in place and the Lake Tahoe Basin area of El Dorado County has implemented a travel ban by order of the El Dorado County public health officer. FAQs.
