San Andreas, CA...56 projects were entered in the 30th Annual Calaveras County Science Fair, and of those 56 projects, our Science Fair judges selected winners from grades 4th – 8th and High School. The judges then selected two students to move on to participate in the 64th Annual California State Science Fair presented by the California Science Center. The State Fair will be held on Monday and Tuesday, May 18-19, 2015 located at the California Science Center located in Exposition Park, just south of downtown Los Angeles...

Encaustic painting has been around since the Egyptians used hot wax in the Fayum mummy portraits around 100 – 300 AD. The word encaustic originates from the Greek word, enkaustikos, which means “to burn in.” Colored wax is applied to a surface of prepared wood or canvas, fused onto the surface with a small blow torch and then shaped with special brushes or tools...

Elsa will be there to meet you, along with other lovable kitties! We will also have kitties available at our Angels Camp Adoption Center, located in Angels Town Center (240 S. Main St./Hwy 49), open Thurs. through Sat., 11 am–5 pm. Come in and meet some wonderful kitty companions!

Major Injuries To Mountian Ranch Woman In Yesterday's Rollover Accident |

San Andreas, CA...Yesterday just before 1pm a Mountain Ranch woman was driving her Toyota westbound on Hwy 12 west of Toll Bridge Road, at approximately 55mph. She saw gravel on the roadway and swerved to avoid it. When she steered to the right her wheels left the roadway, and she traveled onto the gravel shoulder. She then steered to the left in an attempt to get back onto the paved roadway. She was unable to maintain control and the Toyota traveled off the roadway on the north edge of Hwy 12. Her vehicle overturned, colliding with the dirt embankment. The Camry come to rest on it's roof, on top of a barbed wire fence...

Valley Springs, CA...Harold Murphy May 15, 1934 - March 1, 2015 went to his final rest in Valley Springs surrounded by his loving family after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Harold especially loved watching football and baseball games, he also enjoyed golfing with the La Contenta Seniors, RVing with the Calaveras Caravaner's or just hanging out with his family & friends. Harold will be missed by everyone he touched as he was always there to lend a helping hand, give advice or lend that special piece of equipment or tool....

Murphys, CA....Vern Winsby peacefully passed away on March 1, 2015 in San Andreas, CA. Born in Ukiah CA. on Dec. 28 1927. He moved at an early age moved to Pittsburg, Ca. where he grew up and attended school. After graduating from High School Vern served in the Army, and worked with his father. In 1952 he met his wife Gloria and was married. He was a successful businessman opening Winsby's Paint and Hardhardware in 1952 until 1970. He was also on the Pittsburg, CA Planning Commission, City Council and Served also as the Mayor of Pittsburg, CA. He was a Past President of the Junior chamber of Commerce and the Kiwanis Club and Director of the Chamber of Commerce all in Pittsburg, CA... |
