Angels Camp, CA,...The main event of the historic Gold Rush town of Angels Camp’s year-long celebration of 165 years since its founding by Henry Angel is set for August 31st, the Saturday of Labor Day weekend, when the Gold Rush Day street fair, scheduled from 11 am to 4 pm, will close Main Street (State Highway 49) in the historic downtown. Gold Rush Day will be the largest event held on Main Street since the frog jumps were held there in the 1920s and ‘30s....

One strident speaker at a recent political hearing insisted, “Let’s worry about humans, not frogs! Yet when it comes to a proposed plan put recently forward by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to protect three Sierra Nevada amphibians, the protective measures for the two frog species and the Yosemite toad would also benefit people as well. That was a key message CSERC attempted to convey in guest opinion pieces that ran in early August in three major urban area newspapers and the local Sonora Union Democrat paper...

Murphys, CA...In great news for our local wine industry and business community the Stevenot property and Dragone Ranch have new owners. The new owners have plans to reopen the winery and at least one of the partners has roots in the Sonoma area wine industry. This will start a new saga for the property that in many ways put the Calaveras County Wine Region on the map. Many in the community have been grateful for the care of the property from the investment group who became the unwilling owners after a foreclosure sale ended the Munari era...

Twelve health insurance companies will offer coverage in the individual exchange, with six of those companies offering plans through the exchange’s Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP) market as well.
