Jamestown, CA...On August 4, 2020, at approximately 11:33am, 54-year-old Sarah Freitas of Hughson was driving her 2015 Chevy Camaro westbound on State Route 120, west of Rushing Hill Lookout at approximately 65 miles per hour. She entered a left-hand curve in the roadway and was unable to negotiate it.

Suspect in Elder Abuse Case Barricades in Residence |

Vallecito, CA...On July 31, 2020 at about 10:30 AM the Calaveras County Dispatch Center received a 911 call from a witness stating a male pushed his 77 year old elderly grandfather to the ground during an argument. Deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 3000 block of Juniper Rd., Vallecito, to investigate. While responding, the dispatch center received a second 911 call stating the suspect was on a “rampage”, throwing things around the residence and threatening to kill the victims. The victims fled from the residence in fear for their life and waited nearby for law enforcement to arrive.

SUV Driver Sustained Fatal Injuries in Hwy 120 Traffic Collision |

Jamestown, CA...On July 31, 2020 at approximately 10:41 AM, a 21-year-old male from Fresno was driving a 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe SUV eastbound on State Route 120, east of Tulloch Road in the number 2 lane at high rate of speed. At that that same location, 41-year-old Robert Ellis of Redding was driving a 2019 Freightliner Cascadia Big Rig pulling a trailer, eastbound on State Route 120, east of Tulloch Road in the number 2 lane, ahead of the SUV. At some point, the driver of the SUV attempted to pass the Mr. Ellis’ vehicle, but, the right side of the SUV collided into the Big Rig causing the driver of the SUV to lose control. The SUV then traveled directly in front of the Big Rig where a second impact occurred. After the second impact, both vehicles caught fire and Mr. Ellis was able to escape without any injuries. Unfortunately, the driver of the SUV was unable to escape and succumbed to his injures at the scene.

Major Injuries to Copperopolis Toddler in Head On Collision This Afternoon |

Tuolumne, CA...On July 30, 2020 at approximately 4:05 pm, 20-year-old Merced resident, Kayla Marie Dickerson-Childres, was driving a 2012 Toyota Yaris traveling southbound on North Fork Road through a left-hand curve in the roadway, approximately 5.5 miles south of State Route 108. 59-year-old Sonora resident, Brian Edward Finigan was driving a 2007 Dodge Ram traveling northbound on North Fork Road, approaching Dickerson-Childres. Dickerson-Childres allowed her vehicle to travel over the solid double yellow lines and directly into the path of Finigan’s vehicle.

Quick CPR By Citizens & Help from Deputies & EMTs Help Save Don Pedro Drowning Victim |

Don Pedro, CA...Yesterday, just after 5pm, deputies assigned to our boating division were dispatched to a drowning at Don Pedro lake near the Moccasin boat launch. Upon arrival, deputies assisted in providing aid to the 21-year-old male until medical professionals arrived on scene. The victim was later air lifted to an out of county hospital for further treatment.

Calaveras County Sheriff’s Marijuana Enforcement Team Keeping Busy |

San Andreas, CA...On July 7th, 2020, the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Marijuana Enforcement Unit served two unrelated search warrants for illegal marijuana cultivation. The first site was located in the 3000 block of Tree Lane in Wilseyville. Deputies seized 808 growing marijuana plants and over 200 pounds of processed marijuana. Investigators estimate the value of eradicated marijuana exceeds $700,000. No suspects were located at the site; however, the investigation is ongoing.

Valley Springs, CA...On 7/24/20 a Marine Safety Deputy working at Lake Hogan was flagged down by citizens. The citizens advised that they saw what appeared to be an injured bird on the Hogan shoreline. Our Deputy responded and located a juvenile Golden Eagle which appeared to be injured. The Deputy caught the injured Eagle and transported it by boat to the Hogan Headquarters, where he and Hogan Rangers met with Tri County Wildlife Care out of Amador County.

Angels Camp, CA...*UPDATE July 24, 2020* After a lengthly investigation by San Andreas CHP with the assistance of the CHP Valley Division Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) it was determined that Party #2 (Steele) was operating his vehicle in a reckless manner and caused the collision that resulted in the death of Party #1 (Tzur). The case was given to the Calaveras County District Attorney's office for their consideration and they filed one count of Felony Vehicular Manslaughter and one count of illegally possessing an assault weapon against Party #2. No further details are available at this time.
