North Korea Launches an ICMB that Travels 2800 Miles

Washington, DC...The U.S. Department of Defense detected and tracked a single North Korea missile launch today at about 1:17 p.m. EST. Initial assessment indicates that this missile was an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM). The missile was launched from Sain Ni, North Korea, and traveled about 1000 km before splashing down in the Sea of Japan, within Japan's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). We are working with our interagency partners on a more detailed assessment of the launch.
Sarah LaPlante named District Ranger for the Mi-Wok and Summit Ranger Districts on Stanislaus National Forest

Sonora, CA...Sarah LaPlante was selected as district ranger for the districts along the Highway 108 Corridor, Stanislaus National Forest Supervisor Jason Kuiken announced. Her duty station will be Pinecrest and she will be responsible for ranger duties at Mi-Wok and Summit Ranger districts. LaPlante, who is currently the deputy district ranger for the High Sierra Ranger District on the Sierra National Forest, is no stranger to the Stanislaus. “Sarah spent four months at Summit Ranger District last winter as the acting ranger,” Kuiken said. “Her familiarity with Summit’s operations and her diverse past experience make her a great fit to take on this new challenge.” LaPlante will arrive on the Summit Ranger District on Jan. 8, 2018.

Today, we have with us three of the thirteen surviving Navajo Code Talkers of World War II. First, we have Fleming Begaye. Fleming Begaye is 97 years old, the oldest veteran of World War II. He survived the Battle of Tarawa. His landing craft was blown up and he literally had to swim to the beach to survive. Also, on Saipan, he also landed on Tinian where he got shot up real badly, survived one year in naval hospital.

Washington, DC...Today, President Donald J. Trump made additional disaster assistance available to the State of California by authorizing an increase in the level of Federal funding for emergency protective measures undertaken in the State of California as a result of wildfires beginning on October 8, 2017, and continuing. Under the President’s major disaster declaration issued for the State of California on October 10, 2017, Federal funding was made available for Public Assistance, Hazard Mitigation, and Other Needs Assistance at 75 percent of the total eligible costs.

Sacramento, CA...Thanksgiving weekend, traditionally one of the busiest travel times in America, can also be one of the deadliest on the roadways. To help motorists avoid tragedies, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) will have all available officers on patrol during a Maximum Enforcement Period (MEP). The MEP begins at 6:01 p.m. on Wednesday, November 22, and continues through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, November 26. During the MEP, CHP officers will educate motorists and enforce traffic safety laws throughout the state to ensure everyone has a safe holiday.
