Wells Fargo Chairman, CEO John Stumpf Retires After 34 Years With Company

San Francisco, CA...Wells Fargo & Company (NYSE: WFC) announced today that Chairman and Chief Executive Officer John Stumpf has informed the Company’s Board of Directors that he is retiring from the Company and the Board, effective immediately. The Board has elected Tim Sloan, the Company’s President and Chief Operating Officer, to succeed him as CEO, and Stephen Sanger, its Lead Director, to serve as the Board’s non-executive Chairman, and independent director Elizabeth Duke to serve as Vice Chair. Sloan also was elected to the Board.

Suwon, South Korea...Samsung Electronics announced a global replacement program and recall for the Galaxy Note7 as a precautionary measure due to a battery cell issue. Since the launch of the Galaxy Note 7 there have been hundreds of world wide reports of the device having critical battery failure and fires. Since then, Samsung has been working hard to expedite product shipments in order to fulfill that exchange program and reduce any inconvenience for their customers.

Washington, DC...The U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, through the Department of Commerce, announced today that the goods and services deficit was $40.7 billion in August, up $1.2 billion from $39.5 billion in July, revised. August exports were $187.9 billion, $1.5 billion more than July exports. August imports were $228.6 billion, $2.6 billion more than July imports.
Unemployment Insurance Claims In Decline Over Prior Week

Washington, DC...In the week ending October 1, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 249,000, a decrease of 5,000 from the previous week's unrevised level of 254,000. The 4-week moving average was 253,500, a decrease of 2,500 from the previous week's unrevised average of 256,000. This is the lowest level for this average since December 8, 1973 when it was 252,250.

Blue Origin Launches New Shepard Rocket For In-Flight Escape Test

West Texas...Last Month Jeff Bezos CEO of both Amazon and Blue Origin announced that in early October the New Shepard Rocket would be launched for a fifth time. The proposed launch was to test the New Shepard rocket escape system.The escape system can quickly propel the crew capsule to safety if a problem is detected with the booster.
Amtrak Service Suspended Between Wilmington & Philadelphia After Deadly Accident

Philadelphia, PA...All Amtrak service is suspended between Wilmington, Del., and Philadelphia. This morning, Amtrak Train 89, operating from New York City to Savannah, Ga., struck a backhoe that was on the tracks and partially derailed the lead engine south of Philadelphia. There were approximately 341 passengers and 7 crew members on board. Initial reports are that approximately 31 passengers are being transported to area hospitals, none with life-threatening injuries. Local emergency responders are on the scene and an investigation is ongoing.
Dunford: ISIL Wants U.S. to Be Impetuous in Iraq, Syria

Washington, DC...The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant wants the United States to be “impetuous right now, as opposed to being aggressive,” the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff told the House Armed Services Committee today. ISIL “would love nothing more than a large presence of U.S. forces on the ground in Iraq and Syria, so that they could have a call to jihad,” Marine Corps Gen. Joseph F. Dunford Jr. told lawmakers during testimony with Defense Secretary Ash Carter.
