Ebbetts Pass, Sonora Pass & Monitor Pass Closed for the Winter
Posted by: thepinetree on 12/09/2013 03:55 PM
Alpine County, Tuolumne County – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has closed State Route 4 (SR-4) over Ebbetts Pass and SR-89 over Monitor Pass, in Alpine County, and SR-108 over Sonora Pass, in Tuolumne County, as of Monday, December 9, 2013. The recent storms, and accumulation of snow, make the seasonal closure necessary for the safety of motorists and Caltrans crews. The weather conditions on the passes and subsequent road conditions are among the determining factors in the decision to make the seasonal closure. Once the passes are closed for the winter, they will not be reopened until conditions warrant it. Each year, Caltrans crews work diligently to clear debris, remove snow and make highway repairs in order for the highways to reopen by Memorial Day Weekend.
