The Calaveras Redskins Hold Their Last Redskins Homecoming Rally (Updated)
Posted by: thepinetree on 11/03/2015 09:32 AM
San Andreas, CA....Depending on how the district implements the new law forcing them to change their Redskins mascot. Last Friday's Downtown Rally may have been the last Redskins Downtown Rally. If the mascot changes are needed or if it is just another instance of political correctness run amok time will tell. For the generations of Calaveras High Students who were very proud to be Redskins their choice is obvious. The district will not be forced to remove infrastructure but they will not be able to spend funds on existing things such as scoreboards etc. So as infrastructure reaches the end of it's lifespan the Redskin name will gradually fade into history. As someone with a measurable amount of Native American DNA I think the name change is just sad, political correctness that diminishes Native American culture and moves it further to the sideline of history and culture. The Rally worked and the Redskins went on to defeat their homecoming foes 42-7 (Editor's Note: My Great Grandmother was 100% Chickasaw. My father served as a 7th & 8th Grade Teacher and Principal of an elementary school on a reservation near Holbrook, Arizona for several years.)
Magnolia Rhythm Trio Brings Some Cheer To Mountain Ranch

Mountain Ranch, CA...As we were driving the back way home from San Andreas through Mountain Ranch we stopped to see how things were going in town and get something to drink at Senders. As soon as we got out of the car we heard some beautiful sounds coming from the parking lot. Lo and behold Magnolia Rhythm Trio had set up an impromptu Concert & Butte Fire Fundraiser to make sure the mood in town stayed positive as many are picking up the pieces in the Butte Fire aftermath. It is stumbling on scenes such as this that make this a wonderful area to call home.
