Frogtown, USA.....Here is this weeks Blue Ribbon Recipe "Lemon Sponge Pie" by Connie Field, of Janesville, Wisconsin. She won Second Place, Dairy Delight Contest, at the Walworth County Fair, in Elkhorn, Wisconsin in 2005.
Filling:
3 Tbls unsalted butter, room temperature
1 1/4C sugar
4 eggs, separated
3 Tbls flour
Pinch of salt
1 1/4C milk
2 Tbls grated lemon zest
1/3 C lemon juice
1 unbaked 9-inch pie shell....

Angels Camp, CA...The Youth Parade, sponsored by Soroptimist International of Calaveras County since 1947, is scheduled for Thursday, May 19 at 10:00 AM on Main Street in Historic Downtown Angels Camp. "Pirates of the Carrots and Beans" is this year's theme. All youth between the ages of infant to 18 years of age are invited and encouraged to participate in the parade. Prizes will be awarded in various categories......

Frogtown, USA.....Excitement is being generated by many clubs and organizations who are entering the Home Arts divisions at the Fair. Among the quilting guilds participating are the “Quilts of Honor” of Valley Springs, Loose Threads of Valley Springs, and Elkhorn Quilters of Angels Camp. This year quilts will be hung and judged using a “white glove”. ......

Introducing The Miss Calaveras 2011 Contestants! |

Frogtown, USA.....Eight bright talented young women will be competing for the title of 2011 Miss Calaveras and a $1,000 scholarship. The Miss Calaveras Scholarship pageant is an eight week program that culminates in the stage competition at the Calaveras County Fair. The Program offers more than $2,700 in scholarship awards for contestants. Starting this month, the eight contestants will begin a rigorous rehearsal schedule. They will be schooled in interview skills, etiquette, public speaking and talent. The competition comprises of four areas of focus, personal interview, health and fitness, ....

Calaveras County Fair Junior Fair Board Gets a Jump on the Frog Jump! |

Frogtown, USA.....This year's Junior Fair Board got their start for the annual Frog Jump as they met today to be briefed on their duties, interview with Lacey Neufeld, Marketing Assistant for the Frog jump, and tour the grounds to get a feel for what they're up to this May......
We got a picture of those who were able to make the meeting: Melayna Campbell, Brittany Cox, Brady Dubois, Savannah Duncan, Meghan Fought, Rachel Geiszler, Rosie Giannini, Nicole Gleason, Justine Gonzalez, Meghan Holidy, Kristy Jacobson, Taylor Mossa, Kayla Nosek, Sean Purcell, Justice Rasmussen, Brendan Raymundo, Megann Roggow, and Taylor Smahlik.

Hanks on Kids Activities at the Fair |

Frogtown, USA.....The Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee is planning fun inter-active activities for children to participate in on Heritage Days, Thursday May 19 and Friday May 20. Children age twelve and under receive free admission. Heritage Days will host special Pirate Fun for all our buckaneers. .....

Dorothea Cooper Award New This Year at the Fair! |

Frogtown, USA.....From 1948-1966 Dorothea Cooper was involved in building feature exhibit booths for the Copperopolis Community Center. These booths featured products from that area. One year she was gathering grain for her booth and was bit by a rattle snake. On her way to the hospital she dropped the grain off with a neighbor so the booth at the Fair would have grain.....
