Hollywood, CA...Grant Armstrong and Anna Lynch-Robinson at the Oscars, nominated for production design for "Les Miserables." Murphys-own Grant Armstrong was nominated as Supervising Art Director. They wuz robbed!! Locally, see Grant's work on the new Murphys sign just below town at the Locke Vineyards. We look forward to installing more of his signs in Murphys!

Murphys, CA...Entry applications are available online for the Murphys Irish Day parade that make its way down Main Street on St. Patrick’s Day eve, Saturday, March 16 starting promptly at 11 a.m. The parade is one of the attractions that draw thousands of people to Murphys for this annual celebration of the historic Mother Lode town’s Irish heritage. There is also daylong entertainment, some 100 street vendors, a variety of foods and beverages, and a chance to win a trip to Ireland and other prize packages...

Murphys, Feb. 21, 2013 – The serigraphs and CityScape photographs of Don Hukari will be featured for the month of March at the Hovey Winery Tasting Room, 350 A Main St., Murphys. An artist’s reception in his honor will be held Saturday, March 2 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. complete with wine and appetizers. Murphys, CA...Calaveras County's Wine Region worked it's magic last weekend with big, enthusiastic crowds, perfect weather, and a picture perfect Murphys backdrop. The winery properties and tasting rooms on Main Street rolled out the red, white and more for the throngs. If this weekend was a precursor of what we can expect on future events this year then if the weather cooperates Irish Day should fill Murphys to overflowing. We took an hour or so taking some shots from one end of town to the other trying to pass along the feel of the day. It was mostly a visitor crowd but a few locals like Mike Croshaw, Skye Cirello, Tami & Jeff Taurian and Kristina Van Cleave pictured below bravely waded into the Main Street Crowds...

Angels Camp, CA...We had the chance to stop by the dress rehearsal last night to get a glimpz of the latest CSTARS' production. Starting today the Performing Arts Center will be the place to be. The performances turned in by these young actresses, singers, actors and dancers will bring smiles to your faces and maybe even a tear or two to your eyes. Youth Theatre is alive and very, very well here...

The Chili Was Super at Murphys Hotel Cook Off |

Murphys, CA...The Annual Super Bowl Chili Cook Off filled the grounds of the Murphys Hotel as team after team vied to be the Best Chili in the land. In addition to the bragging rights the event also raised over $1,000 for Hospice of Amador and Calaveras and brough in about 200lbs of Non-Perishable Food for The Local Food Bank. Now on to the Winners!! The Judges Choice Grand Champion: "Flach Inc." Roger Olsen and Tim Brant from Angels Camp. People's Choice: 1st: "Chili Burns Out" Dennis Burns, Dick Tanner, and Ron Tanner (Tanner Vineyards) from Murphys. 2nd: "The V Restaurant" Chef Beverly and Sous Chef Trevor From Murphys. 3rd: "Just One More Bite" Alex and Andrew from Ione. Best Theme: "Rebelicous" Steve LaRussa From San Jose. Now if only the stadium light would have stayed off for just a few more minutes...

Angels Camp, CA...The popular Calaveras Follies returns after a one-year hiatus with renewed energy, at a new venue and with a bold new theme – A Night at the OSCARS, a Hollywood-themed evening replete with the fanfare of a red carpet, limos, paparazzi, celebrity sightings and the Follies’ signature hilarious lip-synched musical revue, March 8 and 9, 2013. More than 15 acts will be performed by local “stars” with a host of celebrity (impersonator) presenters.
