Bear Valley, CA...Now in its 50th year, the Bear Valley Music Festival begins on Friday, July 20 and runs through Sunday, August 5, 2018 with a total of 15 concerts including a special free family matinee on Sunday, August 5. The festival showcases a wide selection of artists and genres including rock, classical, Broadway and jazz.
Sonora, CA...The Bureau of Reclamation announced today its 2018 summer interpretive program and activity schedule for New Melones Lake, located in Calaveras and Tuolumne counties. All program presentations will take place at the Amphitheater in the Glory Hole Recreation Area unless otherwise noted. Programs are free, suitable for all ages and do not require reservations. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Since forming in Boston in 2009, Nashville- based string band Della Mae has established a reputation as a charismatic live act comprised of some of the finest players in bluegrass, Americana and beyond. These ladies were IBMA’s Emerging Artists of the Year in 2013, GRAMMY Nominees in 2014 for their debut album on Rounder Records, named among Rolling Stone’s “10 bands to watch for in 2015,” and have since traveled with the US State Department to over 18 countries spreading peace and understanding through music. “Smart and assured, [Della Mae has a] penchant for blurring the lines between bluegrass, folk, soul, and old-time traditions” -The Boston Globe

Columbia, CA...Sierra Repertory Theatre has awarded the preview performance of its production of the hit Broadway musical “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast” to Mind Matters to be used as a major fundraiser. “We think this is a great way for people, young and old, to enjoy a wonderful evening in the theatre while helping Mind Matters to pursue its goal to help individuals and families cope with the consequences of autism spectrum disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and learning disabilities,” says Mona Kayton, the Mind Matters board member who is in charge of organizing the event.

Camp Connell, CA...Ten Dollar Pony is Larry Nair and Liza Beth Oliveto. They met in the usual way. He asked her to sing, and people said they liked it. So they just kept singing and playing and now look what’s happened. They’ve just released their latest album as a duo, and they certainly have a signature sound. Sure… they’ve got banjo mandolin and dobro on this one… so you might be thinking “Bluegrass??” But you’d be wrong. For starters, most of the songs on this CD are underlaid with strong rock drumming and bass, then there’s rock guitar and Reggae licks played on a banjitar, REM flavored mando, swamp soup dobro all mashed up into a country rock gumbo… maybe you better have a taste and you tell me what the genre is.
