A tour of the Buena Vista Cemetery will be led by cemetery trustee Maureen Elliott at the monthly meeting of the Calaveras Genealogy Society on Tuesday, June 11th from 10-11:30 am, 186 Cemetery Lane, Murphys. Drive through cemetery gates up Cemetery Lane to the top section to park and meet the tour group. Maureen's focus will be "The Unexpected Things Cemeteries Can Reveal to Researchers". Following the tour, we will share a brown bag lunch at Murphys Community Park. Visitors are welcome. To pre-order a picnic lunch call Wendy 728-9796 by June 1st, or bring your own. |

San Andreas, CA... The San Andreas Merchants’ Association will present “Kites Over Calaveras” on Sunday, June 2 – 11:00 –4:00 at the San Andreas Ball Park on Mountain Ranch Road.
There will be kite-flying demonstrations, a candy drop, kite parade and food and refreshments from the 49er Morning Lions Club...

Murphys, CA....A whole different crowd thundered into town on Frog Jump Weekend. From the Nugget all the way down to the Murphys Hotel, Main Street in Murphys was Hog Heaven. Parts of the day Murphys rivaled Frog Town crowd size. We have a few pics below...

Memorial Day in Columbia, CA |

Columbia, CA... A Memorial Day Tribute took place in the old veterans section of Columbia cemetery. The Battle Hymn of the Republic and a salute and prayer to those buried in the old veterans section of the cemetery brought tears to the eye of the beholder as Columbia remembered our country's fallen heroes. Starting at 11am ending at 12pm the ceremonies were conducted by the Columbia Foot Dragons and the Columbia Grenadine Belles. (more photos of Columbia today inside)...

This evening's wonderful Memorial Day celebration by the Calaveras Community Band was punctuated by a flag ceremony by Cub Scout pack 343 from Murphys with master of the flag ceremony Soren, a Webelo Scout. The color guard was comprised of Cody, a Webelo Scout, Alex, a Webelo Scout, Oscar, a Bear Scout, and Christien, a Webelo Scout. (All pictured below with Cameron, the Assistant Cub Master)...

Forest Camping Opens for Memorial Day Weekend |

Sonora, Calif. (May 23, 2013)…The Forest Service today announced that 28 Stanislaus National Forest campgrounds and picnic areas will be open to accommodate visitors and campers for this Memorial Day weekend. At some higher elevations this year, a number of campgrounds will open later as the snow melts. All of the Forest’s 53 developed campgrounds, offering 1,466 campsites, are scheduled to be open and available by mid-summer this year....
