An Update From The County On What’s Going On With Our Roads? |

San Andreas, CA...Calaveras County Public Works Department has been steadily working on road repair since the Butte Fire burned over 70,000 acres and damaged portions of over 80 miles of public roads within the burn area. Along with the damage to the roads done by the fire and the suppression effort, the recovery effort with its sheer numbers of heavy equipment and vehicles further impacted the roads.

San Andreas, CA....San Andreas, CA - Calaveras Public Health Officer, Dr. Dean Kelaita, announced that Public Health Services is investigating a child diagnosed with measles traveling through Calaveras County to ensure no local residents were infected. The unvaccinated child resides in Nevada County and developed measles after returning to California from traveling overseas. The child has fully recovered but many people have been exposed, including residents of Amador and Calaveras counties.

Angels Camp, CA...The Grandparent Project of Calaveras provides real life, practical support for grandparents and other relatives raising grandchildren. All participants, children, family friends and those who may be interested in meeting other grandparents/relative caregivers are invited to celebrate together with a picnic on May 1, 2016. This year the fun will be held in two locations, Turner Park in San Andreas and White Pines Park in Arnold. The celebrations will take place from 12:30-2:30 at both locations. San Andreas, CA...James Leonard March was Born September 17,1918, in Richmond, California. He was 97 years old when he passed away in Suisun City with youngest son Jerry of a Stroke on March 29, 2016. He Graduated high school in the Bay Area. He was a 2nd Officer in the Merchant Marines, 2nd Mate in the Coast Guard, served 33 years, World War 2, Korea, and Vietnam Wars. Worked for Master Mates and Pilots Union, Worked for Standard Oil Richmond Refinery prior to getting into the Merchant Marines. After retiring, he became a Master Gardener, grew all his own vegetables, Spent a lot of time fishing for Salmon in Puget Sound, Washington.

Calaveras County To Prepare Environmental Impact Report On Medical Cannabis Ordinance |

San Andreas, CA...Calaveras County will be preparing an Environmental Impact Report for the proposed new medical cannabis ordinance. The ordinance will permit and regulate cannabis cultivation in the county and provide for commercial activities associate with medical cannabis. A Notice of Preparation, used to scope the issues that the EIR should consider, has been issued and comments are due by May 6, 2016.

Calaveras County Airport Fly-In & Open House--April 23 |

San Andreas, CA...The Calaveras County Airport Fly-In/Open House will be Saturday April 23 from 8am to 5pm. We start our day with a pancake breakfast by the Tri-Dam Lions Club. Aircraft will start to arrive early and classic cars will be setting up for display along with radio controlled aircraft. Airplane rides will also start early and continue throughout the day; $10 for adults and $5 for children. Musical entertainment will be provided by “The Calaveras Community Band” followed by “The Rusty Rockers”. Lunch options include pulled pork sandwiches by EAA 484, bratwurst by Moke Hill Lions, and hot dogs by the local boy scouts. Come join the fun and make Calaveras County Airport (KCPU) your destination April 23!

San Andreas, CA...Mark Twain Medical Center (MTMC) held Their 7th Annual Health Fair on March 26th at Ironstone Vineyards in Murphys. Over twenty community health related service groups will participated in this community-wide event. A wealth of information was available on topics such as senior health services, health insurance, nutrition, and fitness. Low cost testing and services included Blood Analysis ($45), and Bone Density Screenings ($10). In addition to the five-panel blood analysis (this test consists of a chemistry panel, thyroid, complete blood count, lipid panel, iron for women, and PSA for men), the Medical Center will also now screen for vitamin D deficiencies....
