CAL FIRE Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit Transitions Out of Peak Fire Season

San Andreas, CA...January 19, 2018 – Recent rains and cooler temperatures across the region have lowered the threat of wildfires allowing CAL FIRE’s Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit to transition out of peak fire season effective Monday, January 22, 2018 at 8:00 a.m. in Tuolumne, Calaveras and the eastern portions of San Joaquin and Stanislaus Counties. “This has been an unprecedented year with the peak fire season carrying over into the next calendar year” said Unit Chief Josh White. “We would like to thank our residents and visitors for helping to keep the number of wildfire ignitions low. I would also like to thank all of our firefighters and our federal, state and local firefighters for their dedication, professionalism and hard work.”

Physician Assistant Star Hildabrand: Treating Generations of Patients in Angels Camp

Angels Camp, CA...Physician Assistant Star Hildabrand has watched many young patients grow up during her 13 years at the Angels Camp Family Medical Center. “The kids I first saw when I started here in 2005 are now teens and young adults. I’ve been taking care of them their whole lives.” Over the years, Star has seen a steady increase in patient population at the center. “People have confidence in us and the services we provide,” she says. “Our goal is to establish on-going relationships with our patients. On the other hand, it’s not unusual for us to see people in their 50’s who have never been to the doctor before.”

Calaveras Humane Society To Open Full Service Animal Shelter

Angels Camp, CA...The Calaveras Humane Society announced today that it has purchased a building in Angels Camp to renovate and open as a full-service animal shelter in late 2018. The property, located at 1209 Highway 49 near Spence Ranch Feed and Supply and Angels Camp Veterinary Hospital, will be remodeled to include housing for dogs, cats, and small animals such as rabbits and guinea pigs, as well as office spaces, get acquainted rooms, grooming areas and more.

Second Indoor Marijuana Grow Eradicated Last Week in Valley Springs

Valley Springs, CA..On 01-11-18 members of the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Marijuana Enforcement Team served a search warrant for an illegal unregistered indoor marijuana grow at a residence in the 6000 block of Highway 26 in Valley Springs. This location is another residence where deputies found the entire house had been converted for marijuana cultivation. 1,346 marijuana plants were seized and one subject arrested. Xiu Huang (57 year old female from Sacramento) was booked into the Calaveras County Jail with $30,000 bail for 11358(c)H&S – illegal marijuana cultivation and 11366H&S - maintaining a place for the purpose of unlawfully selling, giving away, or using any controlled substance (commonly known as “operating a drug house”).

$5,000 Reward Offered for Arrest & Conviction of Wanted Subject Jimmy Blake Terry

San Andreas, CA...The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office is facilitating the offer of a $5,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of wanted subject, Jimmy Blake Terry. Earlier this week the Sheriff’s Office announced that Jimmy Blake Terry is currently listed as Calaveras County Most Wanted in connection to a recent burglary and vehicle pursuit in the Arnold area. Terry also has several outstanding warrants for his arrest from both Calaveras and Tuolumne Counties. A private anonymous party has donated the $5,000 reward to the Friends of the Calaveras Sheriff’s Office, which is a nonprofit group that supports the Sheriff’s Office programs, projects and equipment.

Valley Springs, CA...On 01-10-18 members of the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Marijuana Enforcement Team served a search warrant for an illegal unregistered indoor marijuana grow at a residence in the 8000 block of Baldwin Street in Valley Springs.
