Oil Painting Workshop Offered At Petroglyphe |

Mokelumne Hill, CA...Twelve lucky students can participate in a three-day art workshop, Oil Painting – A Direct Approach with Howard Rees, Aug. 15 through 17 at Petroglyphe Gallery, 8317 Main St., Mokelumne Hill in its adjacent Quarry Hill Studio. An artist’s reception, free and open to the public, will be held in his honor from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17 at the gallery featuring wine and light appetizers. The workshop, designed for “all comers” from beginner to advanced, runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. all three days and will focus on the direct application of oil paint to produce fresh and spontaneous paintings. The first morning will begin with a demonstration about the essentials of Rees’ technique. Throughout the workshop participants will create their own works beginning each step with his guidance and direction....

Annual General Membership Meeting of Calaveras Arts Council is August 27 |

San Andreas, Ca...All current members of the non-profit, public benefit corporation of the Calaveras County Arts Council are invited to attend the Annual General Membership Meeting on Tuesday, August 27, starting at 5:00 pm. Come by “Gallery Calaveras” at 22 Main Street in San Andreas for refreshments and to get together with other members. The business meeting will begin at 5:30 pm. The Annual Report for Fiscal Year 2013-14 will be featured, and comments will be taken from those present. Election of members to the Board of Directors for 2013-14 will also take place.

(HSAG of California), the Medicare Quality Improvement Organization for California. San Andreas, Ca...Chairs for Charity returns to Calaveras County on Saturday, January 31, 2015!The Calaveras Arts Council and Soroptimist International of Calaveras County are again partnering to host this fun affair. The venue, as before, is The San Andreas Town Hall. It’s not too early to begin thinking about that unique chair, stool, bench or “a place to sit” and transforming it into a “Work of Art” that will garner the most money for the charity of your choice. Professional artists and community groups receive 40% of the auction price. Strive to be one of the 10 top entries to be selected as a live auction item. Creativity and ingenuity are always encouraged. The theme chosen for 2015 is SPORTS –any kind of sports: baseball, football, fencing, horseback riding, skiing, kayaking, golfing, badminton –you get the picture. Ford Escape Didn't Escape the Trees |

San Andreas, Ca...On August 3rd, 2013, at approximately 6:45 PM, a 2003 Ford Escape with three passengers and the driver was travelling northbound on Highway 49. For unknown reasons, south of Carol Kennedy Drive, the vehicle traveled to the right, where the tires collided with the raised asphalt, causing the vehicle to travel down the embankment, collide with multiple trees and a wooden power pole, which then caused the vehicle to overturn one and a half times, coming to a rest on the roof. All four people in the vehicle were able to exit the vehicle on their own and wait for emergency assistance... |
