In Loving Memory of Maisie Schachten 1917~2012

Murphys, CA....Maisie E Schachten was born on July 9, 1917 and grew up in the San Francisco Bay area. She married Lenwood M Schachten before WWII and they settled in Murphys Ca. where Lenwood was born and raised. They had 2 sons Tom and James Schachten. Maisie worked as a Psychical Therapist at Bret Harte Sanatorium in Murphys for years and then finished up her medical career at San Joaquin General Hospital in Stockton Ca.. She then spent the last 35 years, prior to Lenwood’s death, helping him in their cabinet shop....

Angels Camp, CA...Camps Restaurant was filled to the brim and overflowing outside with friends family and community members Sunday Night. They showed up and worked the red carpet for the Cupcake Wars show premier featuring new Cupcake Wars Winner, local cupcake queen Karen Henderson of Lila & Sage and teammate Jami Saul of Hillbillies Restaurant. Tonight brought a Hollywood feel to Calaveras County! Here is a previous story we wrote on Karen... The winner of Cupcake Wars will be revealed on Sunday, July 15 when the “Cupcake Wars” episode featuring her airs on the Food Network. Henderson and Saul have had to keep their lips sealed about the outcome of the show since taping the episode back in February....

Multi-instrumentalist David Lindley performs music that redefines the word "eclectic." Lindley, well known for his many years as the featured accompanist with Jackson Browne, and leader of his own band El Rayo-X, has long championed the concept of world music. The David Lindley electro-acoustic performance effortlessly combines American folk, blues, and bluegrass traditions with elements from African, Arabic, Asian, Celtic, Malagasy, and Turkish musical sources. Lindley incorporates an incredible array of stringed instruments including but not limited to Kona and Weissenborn Hawaiian lap steel guitar, Turkish saz and chumbus, Middle Eastern oud, and Irish bouzouki.
