Angels Camp, CA....The 2013 Calaveras County Relay for Life is in the books. Over the 24 hour period, Relayers walked over 1,500 miles! (They kept track of this by having Relayers pick up a paperclip after each lap walked and counting the papers clips!) As of close of Relay on Sunday, April 28th at 9:00 a.m. – over $53,000 has been raised!
TCU 2013 Fire Season Begins With A New CAL-FIRE Unit Chief

San Andreas –With this year’s dry conditions the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit (TCU) transitioned into fire season on May 1st, much earlier than normal. CAL FIRE’s Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit incorporates the State Responsibility Areas (SRA) in Tuolumne County, Calaveras County, Eastern Stanislaus County and Eastern San Joaquin County. The 2013 fire season also comes with new leadership. On May 1, 2013, Josh White was appointed to the TCU Unit Chief position. Former TCU Unit Chief, Brian Kirk, retired in March 2013. Chief White began his career in 1988 as a Firefighter I. Since then he has worked a variety of assignments including State and County fire stations, Conservation Camps, Fire Prevention, Civil Cost Recovery, Law Enforcement, Safety, Research and Development as well as served on various working groups and cadres. Chief White has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice...

San Andreas, CA... The CHS Earth Club would like to invite you to get rid of your old, broken electronics to be recycled! This event will take place on Saturday June 1 from 9am - 1pm in the lower parking lot of Calaveras High school. E-Waste contains a variety of toxins which leech into the environment when thrown into landfills and not properly disposed of. Please bring the items to CHS to be recycled. This event offers you an easy way to recycle any electronic device that is not useful or is no longer working. Such items include televisions, computers, monitors, printers, fax machines, radios, record players, tape players, CD players, DVD players, telephones (landlines and cell), answering machines, copiers. Pretty much anything electronic! Items NOT able to be recycled are batteries, smoke detectors, x-ray equipment, fluorescent lights and ballasts...
