Murphys, CA...On October 31st Murphys Creek Theatre will be showing, “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” at the Black Bart Playhouse, 580 South Algiers St., Murphys. This benefit fundraiser will feature a costume contest, raffle prizes and of course audience participation! Festivities begin at 11PM with the film screening to begin at midnight. Stories will flow this coming Saturday, October 18th, beginning at 7pm, at the First Congregational Church of Murphys, 509 Algiers St. Concert tickets are $12, and doors open at 6:30pm....

Murphys, CA...We had the pleasure of speaking with VUSD Teachers Association's Michelle Wright last week. Michelle has taught in the district for 27 years and currently teaches first grade at Michelson Elementary. We spoke about their recent endorsement of Ali Heermance, Colby Barker, and Tom Pratt in the upcoming election for seats on the VUSD Board. We were able to speak with Mr. Pratt & Mr. Barker about their reasons for running. Ali Heermance was on a field trip and we will catch up with her soon. | Murphys, CA...Call me naive, but I am one of those people who believe everyone is inherently good and honest and would certainly expect a candidate for judge to have the highest integrity. I am dumbfounded about what I have been reading about Tim Healy's tactics against his opponent, Judge Swift. I don't like the ugliness of politics and am still trying to figure out why judges are elected officials. It seems to me that judges should be the most qualified person for the job. But. alas that is not how it works.... |

| Murphys, CA...Over the course of the past ten years, the board of the Murphys Community Club (MCC) has received many requests from local residents to construct bocce courts in or around Murphys Park. The initial effort began in 2008 with the formation of interested volunteers joining a committee and enlisting the talents of a then local landscape architect to draw up professional plans. Unfortunately, due to property line issues, those plans were thwarted and the project was shelved for future consideration. In late 2013 the MCC board formed a partnership with Angels‐Murphys Rotary Club to revisit the project, and with the assistance of District 3 Supervisor Merita Callaway and the Calaveras County staff, a new location for the courts was selected and the project is now well underway.... |

Murphys, CA...In California, fires are one of our greatest threats. During fire season, never knowing where they may ignite, it would seem as though none of us are free from worry. While many of us have had to endure smoky air and ash falling from the sky throughout the years, we cannot fathom the devastation of losing all that we hold dear to a fire's path of destruction....
