Murphys, CA...Save the Date - June 20-22, 2014 - Behind the Bottle Weekend - The week-end kicks-off on Friday night with a concert in Murphys Park. Bring a folding chair and a couple of blankets to settle in for a night of swing music by the band Swing Gitane. Wines by the glass and food will be available for purchase. No ticket required. Or, if you are looking for something more in depth join us for an exclusive and elegant Farm-to-Table dinner with our winemakers and winery owners. Here you will get to taste some of the best wines of Calaveras and chat with the people who make them. They will be pouring their wines before dinner and then will join you at your table during the exquisite four-course gourmet meal featuring local foods from Calaveras County. Spend the rest of the weekend chatting with your favorite winery staff while sampling their latest releases, or attend a wine appreciation, wine making, wine blending, food pairing, cheese or charcuterie workshop. RUMORS ABOUT MY STAND ON PUBLIC LANDS...As we enter the final weeks of the primary election campaign, I have learned about a false rumor that is being spread about me by some people who support Michael Oliveira. The rumor is that I want to restrict our access to public lands. Nothing could be further from the truth. I am appalled about recent news stories regarding the federal government’s treatment of citizen’s legal use of federal land. The most famous was the Bundy Ranch in Nevada, but I have learned of dozens more in recent weeks. I am troubled about the lack of free access to the Stanislaus National Forest, both to our local residents and visitors alike. If elected, I will work with the Forest Service to re-open our lands for our enjoyment and use. There are several good examples of local and Forest Service cooperation that we can use as an example...

The Bird Friendly® designation is the highest ecological sustainability certification that coffee can be awarded. Coffees that are certified Bird Friendly® are organically grown in strict accordance with rigorous standards developed and overseen by the SMBC. Vallecito, CA....Twisted Oak Winery is pleased to announce the continuation of our Twisted Folk Concert Series – featuring roots rock legends Dave Alvin and Phil Alvin! “Dave and Phil Alvin, who formed The Blasters back in 1979, are back together singing the songs of blues legend Big Bill Broonzy,” said winery co-owner Jeff Stai. “If you have any love for the blues in your soul, take my word for it you need to come to this show. (Or bop on over to twistedoak.com/alvin and listen to a few tracks if you still need convincing.)” Opening the show are bluegrass favorites Laurie Lewis and Tom Rozum. “Laurie and Tom last played here at Twisted Oak in 2012 and we’re really happy to have them back for this special holiday weekend event.” Laurie, along with Nina Gerber who is performing at Twisted Oak July 26, toured as part of Dave Alvin and The Guilty Women. (May 13, 2014)… The public is invited to the commencement event and grand opening of the new and improved facilities at the Pinecrest Lake Day Use Area and Beardsley Lake Recreational Area on the Stanislaus National Forest (NF), Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Stanislaus NF in partnership with Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) and Tri-Dam Project are hosting the opening ceremony at the Pinecrest Amphitheater, followed by three possible tours of the new facilities: Pinecrest Lake Mariana; Pinecrest Amphitheater; and Pinecrest Lake Fishing Pier....
