Fire Update....Vegetation Fire on Gopher Ridge Near Saddle Creek...Update as of 5pm...75 Acres and 75% Containment

New Melones, CA...Crews were working a vegetation fire near New Melones reservoir that was held to 2 acres. The second fire is on Gopher Ridge near Saddle Creek in Copperopolis The fire has room to grow but access from the ground will be a problem. They have just ordered another helicopter for the fire in addition to helicopter 404 which is already working the fire.... Update as of 11:21am...The Gopher fire is now at about 20 acres at this time. At last update the fire was in the 35 acre range... Update as of 2:48pm...According to CAL-FIRE's Lisa Williams this fire is in the 35 acre range. Air units have been released but multiple ground units will be on the fire for a bit mopping up. Update as of 5pm...75 Acres and 75% Containment

Copperopolis, CA...Jonathan Nelson was graduating from the Sonora High Middle College program and wanted to do something meaningful as his senior project. The 18-year-old Copperopolis resident decided to stage a pancake breakfast with the proceeds going to help support the Mind Matters Clinic in Murphys. On Sunday, April 1, dozens of friends and neighbors gathered with him in the community’s Black Creek Park and made it possible for him to raise $926 for his selected cause....

Copperopolis Woman Arrested for Assault with a Firearm

Copperopolis, CA..On 07/13/12 at approx. 4:00 PM Calaveras Sheriff’s deputies returned a phone call to a victim concerning a report of an assault with a firearm at a residence on the 6000 block of Ricky Road in Copperopolis. The deputy spoke with Carl Towe who reported that he had been involved in a verbal dispute the previous day (07/12/12) with his wife, Eva Towe (56) of Copperopolis. The dispute concerned ongoing family issues. After the dispute Carl went outside the residence with his adult granddaughter. While outside, Suspect Towe allegedly walked up behind Carl carrying a .22 caliber rifle. She pointed the rifle at Carl’s head while accusing him of calling one of her family members about her behavior....

San Andreas, CA...On Monday, July 2, 2012, at approximately 4:07 AM, CAL FIRE Law Enforcement Officers from the Tuolumne/Calaveras Unit in cooperation with the Calaveras County District Attorney’s office arrested three male juveniles in connection with allegedly starting several fires in Calaveras County. The juveniles were charged with fourteen counts of arson and one count of recklessly causing a fire....
