We here at ThePineTree would like to congratulate the students from the Mark Twain School District who were the "Kindness Hero" Essay Winners. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for writing such beautiful stories. These essays have made people all over the county tear up as they are quite lovely. We have the list of winners enclosed and some photos taken by Hanna Heath as these wonderful kids read their essays to the residents at Foothill Village last week.....

Copperopolis, CA...Each year Calaveras County students participate in a Kindness Hero Essay Contest. All of the subjects of the students’ essays are winners, but a few students were chosen from Copper Elementary and Mark Twain to be recognized at the Angels Camp City Council Meeting last night. Copperopolis, CA….The small town of Copperopolis will no longer be unrecognized or overlooked by Calaveras County locals or visitors. In April, 2006 Castle and Cooke Calaveras, Inc. released the development plan for the Copperopolis Town Square….

Angels Camp, CA...We had the pleasure to chat for a few minutes with The Calaveras County Chamber of Commerce's Executive Director, Diane Gray. One of the big pushes for the Chamber this year will be Economic Development and bringing additional jobs to the county. The Chamber is meeting with Calaveras County Board of Supervisors Chair, Steve Wilensky next week. A Supervisor's Study Session will be held at a later date on Economic Development. This will enable what everyone can do to enhance the economic vitality of our area....

Angels Camp, CA...We had the pleasure to talk for a few minutes with Ray Waller, the former head Calaveras County Building official on the ongoing driveway slope controversy. For those of you who may not remember the county stopped issuing permits for development on parcels where the driveway slope exceeds 16%. This has numerous parcels currently tied up in protraced if not uncloseable escrows and has thrown the value of hundreds of millions of dollars of county real estate and homes into question. We wanted to talk with Ray about this issue because he was with the county and the building department when the original county ordinance was created to comply with state code 4290...

Copperopolis, CA...Copperopolis Fire District purchased a transport vehicle Friday, February 1st, and is currently negotiating with and seeking authorization from American Legion Ambulance to help assist the legion with transports, according to Copperopolis Fire Chief Tony Powers....
