Memorial Weekend Update From Alpine County Sheriff's Office |

Markleeville, CA...Here's a report of some of what went on this Memorial Day Weekend. On Friday, one of our Deputies observed a vehicle weaving and driving at various speeds. He performed a traffic stop in downtown Markleeville and discovered the driver had been drinking. CHP responded and arrested the driver, a 57 year old Markleeville man. On Sunday afternoon, a two-vehicle head on collision took the life of 63 year old Lucinda Ramirez, of Pine Grove. 3 other persons were transported via air rescue.

Traffic Update.....Late Spring Storm Closes Mountain Passes |

Arnold, CA...Caltrans has closed Hwy 4 over Ebbetts Pass & Hwy 108 over Sonora Pass. Caltrans will have to check for rocks & debris before they can reopen after the weekend.

No Mosquitoes Yet In Mosquito Lake |

Mosquito Lake, CA...With the pass open we thought we would take a gander at the high country to see how things are faring so far this spring. Quite a few fishermen along the East Carson River that is really flowing. The high country lakes are still melting out. We did see a couple of people fishing Lake Alpine along the shore but Mosquito as you can see in the picture below is still snow encrusted...

Lake Alpine, CA....It's official, the gates have swung open and the road signs have been changed. The high country is calling. Sonora pass may not get opened till next Wednesday. Alpine County – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has removed the winter snow, cleared the debris and made the necessary repairs to open State Route 4 over Ebbetts Pass on Friday, May 13, 2016, at Noon.
