San Andreas, CA.... “Focus on Heart Health” is the timely topic for the latest in Mark Twain Medical Center’s “A Plan 4 Me” wellness workshop series. Those attending the Feb. 26 event will learn how to keep their heart healthy; how Mark Twain Medical Center supports local cardiac patients, and what types of minimally invasive surgical techniques are available. This event during American Heart Month will feature medical professionals from the Mark Twain Heart Center, along with General Surgeon Dr. Andrew McCoy, MD. Steve Shetzline, Executive Director of the Murphys Senior Center, who will give an overview of Stay Vertical Calaveras, a free exercise program for seniors sponsored by Mark Twain Health Care District.

46th Annual Bjornloppet Hits the Nordic Trails March 9 & 10

Bear Valley, CA...On Saturday, March 9th, cross country skiers from near and far will assemble in the Bear Valley Meadow for the 46th running of the Bjornloppet Ski Race and Festival. With a 10:30 am start, The “Bjornloppet”, meaning Bear Race in Norwegian, is enjoyed by young and old alike. There are divisions for all ages and two distances are offered, 20 kilometers (two laps) and 10 kilometers in Saturday’s freestyle (striding or ski skating) race.

Bear Valley, CA...The snow is falling and the winter playground keeps getting better and better. Another 4 feet of snow from the latest system just added to the totals. In March of 1911 Tamarack had 452 inches on the deck. (Hopfully we won't get quite that much this year.) Road & Chain Controls Update...Hwy 26 Still Closed, Chain Controls on Hwys 88, 4 & 108

Arnold, CA...At this time Hwy 26 is still closed from the mudslide a few days ago. As for chain controls...from north to south. On Hwy 88 you will need to chain up 7 miles east of Pine Grove. Hwy 4 will have you needing traction aids from Arnold on up. The Sonora Pass Hwy or Hwy 108 will have engaging the 4wd at the west end of Twain Harte. Hwy 120 is currently showing clear driving into Yosemite. Drive careful out there...

Bear Valley, CA...Hey Good People! Very lite snow showers are happening as I write at 5am. We look to possibly pick up 2-4" of new snow today then tapering later this evening to snow showers as the system progresses East. WSW winds today will average in the low teens with possible gusts to 20mph. Friday and Saturday still look to be sunny before the next pulse of snow activity arrives Sunday. Don't forget about our 2 for 1 Tuesday’s and 50% off lift tickets for students and Emergency Responders. The Grizz Bowl looks to come online for this Thursday so check back in for updates on that and don't forget to come check out our Pure Mtn Fun as we have lots of it going on!
Calaveras County Parking Restrictions During Snow Removal Operations

San Andreas, CA...During this past weekend there were many instances throughout the County where residents and visitors parked vehicles on County and State Routes to stop and enjoy the snow. Unfortunately, by parking in the road and along the County right-of-way personal vehicles kept County staff from clearing the snow in several areas and created a serious hazard for the traveling public and our Public Works snow removal staff. Calaveras County Public Works Department requests that all residents and visitors to Calaveras County be aware of Calaveras County Ordinance No. 2154 – Prohibits Parking During Snow Removal Operations. This ordinance states the following:
