Arnold, CA...It will be another busy week along the West Slope of the Northern Sierra Nevada. the National weather service in Sacramento has added a Flash Flood Warning for good measure as well. Tonight: Heavy snow showers and heavy rain showers. Windy. Lows 22 to 36 higher elevations...34 to 42 lower elevations. No snow accumulation lower elevations...19 to 25 inches higher elevations. Snow level 5000 feet. Prevailing south winds 15 to 30 mph with gusts to around 55 mph...except southwest 30 to 50 mph over ridges.

Significant Fire Damage to Tamarack Pines Inn Below Bear Valley

Bear Valley, CA...We have confirmed with both the Ebbetts Pass Fire District & Cal-Fire that an early morning fire did significant damage to the Tamarack Pines Inn in Tamarack.  According to TCU Dispatch the initial call was at 5am this morning.   Initial reports are that occupants heard some form of explosion and then the building rapidly filled with smoke. Thankfully all occupants made it out without injury and the investigation is underway as to cause. A few years ago in a heavy snow year there was a fire at this Inn that was isolated to the propane tank area.   Since there is currently 10 feet of snow in the area the investigation will take some time.  More details to follow...

Back in the early 90’s, when Shawn was selling out of the back of his truck as “The Eddy Mart”, the most important items to have on hand were life jackets, river shorts, sandals and river knives. Oh yes, and a few things the rafting customers would want, t-shirts, hats, sunscreen, etc. It became obvious that The Eddy Mart was getting too big to operate out of a garage when the whitewater kayaks came. It was time for a storefront. That’s when providence arrived on the scene.

Vallecito Union School District on One Hour Late Start Schedule February 21st.

Avery, CA...Thursday, February 21st, all schools will be on a one-hour late start schedule. Elementary site schedules will be 9 am to 2 pm and Middle School schedule will be 9:45 to 3 pm. Kindergarten families, please refer to messages from your site. Buses will continue to pick up and drop off at Hwy 4 snow stops. Drive safely and thank you for your patience.
