Arnold, CA...In the first three years of my first four-year term as Supervisor for District 3 in Calaveras County, I am engaged in several areas regarding the welfare and the prosperity of Calaveras county. Those areas include the County budget, crime in the entire County and specifically in District 3, the business community, the building industry, the general plan update, our youth opportunities, our tourism and more importantly, the recent involvement of the regulation of cannabis and recreational use allowed by the state effective this year.

Angels Camp, CA....The Bret Harte FFA Floriculture Judging team was announced the 2018 California State Champions on May 5th, 2018. This year three teams from the Bret Harte FFA traveled to San Luis Obispo to compete in the contests of Poultry Evaluation, Milk Quality & Dairy Foods and Floriculture. Teams have been practicing since January putting in countless hours, hard work and dedication to prepare for the State FFA Finals. Our Floriculture Team secured the state title with teams members Kaegen Moore (Junior), Zoe Hartsinck (sophomore), Jessica Goodspeed (junior) and fourth high individual in the state Madelyn Ruff (sophomore).

Forest Service Begins Road Repairs on Spicer Road, Work Will Repair Winter Storm Damage |

Bear Valley, CA...Temporary repairs are underway on Spicer Road, Forest Road 7N01, on Calaveras Ranger District. The temporary repairs, scheduled between May 10 and May 25, will allow vehicle access to reservoirs during the Memorial Day weekend. Permanent repairs are scheduled between May 29 and late July.

Arnold, CA...The Arnold Rim Trail is a non-motorized trail system designed for hikers, mountain bikers and equestrians. ART connects the many wonders of public lands along the Ebbetts Pass National Scenic Byway stretch of Hwy 4 to its communities, creating a high level of access for its residents and visitors. Arnold Rim Trail Cyclists, Equestrians, Hikers, and Runners, mark your calendars now for these May activities: Wonderful Interpretive Nature Walks. Saturday, May 12th - Get to Know the Trees on the ART, hosted by Mary Anne Carlton. Saturday, May 19th - Explore the Natural & Cultural History of the ART, hosted by Nancy Muleady-Mecham, PhD. Volunteer Trail Building Mornings, May 19th. Trail mornings are always the 3rd Saturday of the month May through October. details below. Golfer Nick Kristoff Signs Collegiate Letter of Intent at Bret Harte |

Altaville, CA...Nick Kristoff signed his official letter of intent to pursue his athletic and academic interests next year at the collegiate level at a celebratory ceremony held at Bret Harte Union High School on Wednesday, May 9, 2018. Senior Nick Kristoff signed with Vanguard University in Costa Mesa, where he will be playing golf. Kristoff, in his fourth year on the varsity boys golf team, greatly contributed to the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division V championship teams in 2016 and 2017, as well as three Mother Lode League championship titles in 2016, 2017 and now 2018. On May 3, 2018, Kristoff led his teammates to their first place finish at the Mother Lode League end of season tournament clinching their perfect season with a match record of 12-0.

Big Trees, CA...There will be a Celebration of Life for Jeff Davis, "Ranger Jeff", at the Jack Knight Hall at Calaveras Big Trees State Park and the adjacent picnic area on June 2nd from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. Carpooling is advised because of the limited parking. It will be a potluck style get together since Jeff always enjoyed this type of an event in the summer. We respectfully request that you do not bring alcohol to the event.
