Arnold, CA...The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is preparing to begin a project that will install retaining walls along State Route 4 (SR-4) near Calaveras Big Trees State Park. The project will install retaining walls for sediment control, improve culverts and drainage, and re-construct roadside shoulders along a half-mile segment of SR-4, just west of the entrance to Big Trees State Park. Work is scheduled to begin during the week of April 16, 2017 and be completed in Fall 2017. One-way traffic control will be used and motorists should expect 10-20 minute delays. Work is scheduled to be done mostly in the day. This $7.3 million project has been awarded to K.W. Emerson, Inc. from San Andreas.
Lake Alpine, CA...We would like to thank John Michnowicz for the photos from yesterday as Caltrans commenced their work in earnest of clearing Ebbetts Pass for spring & summer. It will be a long and tough task as once the roads are cleaned crews will need to finish any road repairs needed. We have heard that there may be some damage to the roadway over by the Carson River. How much and how long it will take repairs won't be known until the clearing is finished..
